We are pleased to share this guest post by Michael Grant, currently in his final year at the Georgetown University Law Center. At Georgetown, Michael is the Senior Submissions Editor for the Georgetown Journal of Legal Ethics. He is also involved in Home Court, an annual charity basketball game between Georgetown faculty and staff and members of Congress that raises money for the Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless. When Jenny and I honeymooned in Rome this summer, we stayed in a hotel about two blocks south of Piazza del Popolo. The (regrettably blurry) photo below is taken looking north-to-south in the Piazza. As you can tell from the photo, the center of the Piazza is marked by an obelisk. Known as the Flaminio Obelisk, this monument is of Egyptian origin. At the time of Christ, Rome had expanded into the territory of the old Egyptian empire. Around 10 BCE, Caesar Augustus ordered this obelisk moved from Egypt to Rome.
