So, I did a thing. For Christmas this year, Chris and I gave each other early gifts. He loves to cook and bake so I got him the Mack Daddy of kitchen mixers (KitchenAid) and he got me Alexa. Why are we so late to get an AI voice in the house? Because we never really needed it. But lately, since I work from home, I wanted an assistant to turn on my lights, take notes and order crap on Amazon for me. I’ve become THAT person. Lol
But I never thought Alexa would cause so much trouble. She started out arguing over recipes with my husband. I couldn’t believe my ears. It was about using self-rising f ..read more

The hubby and I had dinner out at one of our favorite little dive restaurants. The place where the wings are saucy, the floor is greasy, and beer flows all night. It’s also a place to watch almost any sports game on one of their gazillion tv’s. But on this night, there was a new item on the menu, and it was calling my name! It was similar to a low country boil. It had crab legs, potatoes, corn on the cob, fried jumbo shrimp, and a little steak. A little cup of butter for dunking the crab and what could go wrong? Everything.
The steak was just tossed on top. That was the first red flag. A bit c ..read more

‘Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, except for my spouse. His snores like a foghorn, a symphony loud, While I tossed and I turned in a hot-flashy cloud.
The stockings were hung on the chimney with care, (Though I suspect he’d forgotten, the lazy old bear). The lights were not strung, not a single strand, He’d promised to do it, margarita in hand.
The children, grown up, had flown from the nest, Leaving just the two of us, and a bit of a test. To keep up the traditions, the magic of yore, Though my energy wanes, and I creak a bit more.

Fear Itself: The Curious Allure of the Spooky and the Scary
In a world filled with varying degrees of fear, one might wonder why some of us, even in midlife, are drawn to the macabre while others run away from it like a cat from a cucumber. Yes, I’m talking about those enigmatic creatures who get giddy at the thought of haunted houses, thrilling scary stories, and bone-chilling spooky movies. You know, the type of people who will gladly watch a horror film while clutching a bowl of popcorn in one hand and a margarita in the other, all while scoffing at the very notion of fear. But wait, isn’t ..read more

If you’ve been following my adventures, you’ll recall our grand migration from a house to an apartment a few years back. What was meant to be a temporary abode turned into a full-blown palace of luxury living. I won’t bore you with the list of amenities, but trust me, it’s a smorgasbord of extravagance!
Now, in any community, you’re guaranteed to find your cast of characters: the Karens, the fun-loving peeps, and of course, the psychos. And let’s be honest, sometimes the psychos are the most entertaining bunch! Lately, there have been more “I-hate-everybody” days than I’d like to admit. It see ..read more

I am a big fan of websites like “Grown and Flown” and “Scary Mommy”. They are filled with smart, funny and insightful articles about all the Mommy stages raising kids in all kinds of situations. However, if you search the interwebs and read the article titles on raising kids, teens, college kids and young adults, you will lose your ever-loving mind.
Advice from other parents on how to parent can only go so far. YOU, as a parent, need to have some sense to raise your own kid, your way. What works for others, may not work for your family. And judging from the article titles, there are some major ..read more

I know you are going through a ton of feels right now, but you will get through this. Pinky swear! I’ve gone through all of this twice now and the youngest is back at in Grad School. It gets easier but don’t put your feelings on the back burner. You need to work through them. Trust me on this. Let me just list out all the feels I went through:
Sad
Happy
Confused and not knowing what I am feeling
Wondering who I am now that no one really needs me
Angry that my kids are not taking my sadness seriously
Ready to throw the kids out on the street because they are no longer listening to my advice or ..read more

What is happening to me? I thought Menopause was over. Did you know that once you hit “post menopause” you never leave it? Kinda like The Hotel California. And once again your body will turn against you in ways you don’t even understand. Is this God’s sense of humor? The other day I sneezed so hard I thought my vagina was going to fall out! What the actual HELL Y’all? How’s your midlife going?
Losing weight is an absolute joke. Over the past year I have lost about 38 pounds and now it has just stopped. I gave up Cola! I gave up Cake! I drink so much water now you can hear my stomach actually s ..read more

I’ve been asked this a million times and I always say, Midlife is around 40 and we just stay there till we die. But now everyone wants a better answer. Fine. Let’s figure this out and let the others know.
The interwebs say that midlife is between 40 and 60 years of age. After 60, we’re considered late-middle-aged, then late-adulthood. That sounds boring and old. So how can we redefine the later years and not sound like a rerun of The Golden Girls?
We’re not our mothers/grandmothers, sitting in rocking chairs and knitting till we die. We’re still moving and groovin’, and outliving all those hus ..read more
