Read his interview and you’ll discover why. Hi Stephen, could you just tell us a little about yourself please, for the readers to get to know you? In this runner interview with Andy Hall, we explore running and mental health in detail, including suicide. Re-defining limits and many other facets of life are also covered in this raw and honest interview. Andy is someone I’m proud to call a friend and have been lucky to get to know in the past few years. We got chatting at a local club track training session and found we had many things in common. Really hope you enjoy this interview.   For those who don’t know you, how would you describe yourself, Andy? Thanks for asking the toughest question first, Jeff. I hate describing myself, I h ..read more

Tried n’ Tested: CIMALP Storm Pro, Storm 2, Drop Evolution 864 Trail Shoes   Please note: This product has been tested extensively over 10 months. In the case of the trail running Ultrashell® jackets, in some brutal weathers. In the case of the Drop Evolution trail running shoes, a mix of extremely dry and incredibly wet conditions. As ever, this is to ensure the reviews go far beyond first impressions and any ‘novelty’ factors as you’ll see when you read this. February 2020 I was asked to test some new 2020 trail running kit as part of the CimAlp Trailrunning clothing range. I’d previous ..read more

An absolute drenching at the Keswick Lakeland Trails did nothing to dampen our spirits. After lockdown and everything 2020 has thrown at us, to be able to run a covid-adapted event was just what we needed. As many blog posts here have said, my love of trail running was fuelled by Lakeland Trails. It was also a trigger to start taking running more seriously. For Keswick, myself and Louis could see that the LT team had done literally everything in their power to make this event as safe as possible. The least we could do was trust in them by supporting the team and running this adapted event rath ..read more

Steve Chilton interview on Billy Bland book and Bob Graham round

In this interview, I speak with author, UKA distance coach and OSM mapper, Steve Chilton. Steve has written ‘Its a Hill, Get Over It’, ‘The Round’ & ‘Running Hard’. I most recently read “The Round in Bob Graham’s Footsteps” to give it it’s full title. A fantastic book offering a very detailed, insightful and often funny look at the many people who have succeeded in completing this iconic round.  I’ve pre-ordered Steve’s new book “All or Nothing At All, the Life of Billy Bland”. A biography of Billy Bland, this eagerly anticipated book explores his life, running achievements and incred ..read more

“Learning is a treasure that will follow its owner everywhere” That Chinese proverb I thought especially relevant to an event where the ethos was of everyone always learning no matter how experienced or relatively new to coaching or running any of us were.   The UK Endurance Conference event was for athletes and coaches of all abilities and levels of experience. Organised by Keith Scofield, this was their 4th event and 2nd in the North. I’ll definitely be attending others. Why? Well the quality of the speakers was top class overall. Chatting to fellow coaches and athletes was actively enc ..read more

The Helvellyn race by Lakeland Trails threw up the most beautiful and unexpected surprise for me when on the return path to Glenridding.   Running for enjoyment rather than racing. A total chance meeting with an old friend. This was a special day indeed ?   This post has been some time coming. The past few months have been mad busy with PhD on top of a sustained three month period of intense work. Thankful for a few days off over the festive period, I’ve had a chance to sit back and reflect on some key memories. Late October arrived and Louis and I headed up for day 1 of the Lakeland ..read more

Ronnie Staton Stroke survivor, ultra runner – runner interview

In this remarkably honest interview, Ronnie Staton shares his love of running and family, together with an eye-opening account of what it’s like to suffer from a stroke at a relatively young age. I honestly don’t feel any words from me can do the words of Ronnie justice. So apart from these very brief points, I’ll leave it to him in response to my questions. 1. If you love ultra running and trail running you’ll love this interview. 2. Thank you to ‘GB Sticks‘ for putting me in touch with Ronnie. You said my blog was an ideal place for such an interview and Ronnie’s words bear that out. 3. Most ..read more
