I took a photo of a 2000 year old statue at a museum in Rome that I want to use for an album cover. Would I need permission from the museum? Are there other copyright considerations? submitted by /u/OldGrowthForest44 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Would be the funcionality of a random generator of a website be protected by copyright if it is somewhat distinctive?

The website linked below is a generator for creating RWBY-style teams for tabletop RPGs (more specifically the 5th edition of D&D). Could another website offer a similar funcionality (of this particular generator) without using the source code of that site? Or is this considered an original creation that cannot be reproduced by similar services? https://donjon.bin.sh/5e/rwby/ Edit: spelling submitted by /u/yurnero1413 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Rules for using copyrighted music?

So in short I’m making a short film to spread around my friend group and I’ve got a few ideas for some backing music, however it’s copyrighted music. I am planning on using maybe 2 copyrighted songs (rest will be original) for 5-10 seconds a per song and uploading it to YouTube as that will allow everyone of my friends to watch jt, however lots of work is going into it and I would like to avoid a takedown. Would I be safe using the music for such a short period of time and crediting the original artist in the video/ description? Or would I be better off getting my music guy to come up with so ..read more

So basically, I am an amateur photographer (16M) and a Facebook page has stolen some of my images without consent/a license. I have submitted a DMCA request to Facebook, and they told me I did not submit sufficient evidence to prove I am the copyright owner. What would sufficient evidence be, since the images aren't registered with the government (can't think of the proper word)? submitted by /u/dbossman11 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I'm working on a game that is very early in development. It's based on the TV show Falling Skies, which aired between 2011-2015. I've been looking around online to try to find who owns the rights to the show and figure out if I can use the alien races in the show in my game. Any and all help in figuring this out is much appreciated. submitted by /u/Epic__Sax_Guy [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Using Quotes from a Film in a Published Book without asking Permission. Is this legal?

Hello. I'm hoping someone here can help or point me in the right direction. 20 years ago I directed a documentary film on legendary fantasy artist Frank Frazetta called Painting With Fire. Last year, a large format book was published by well known publisher Taschen about Frank and his work, designed to be the “be-all, end-all” book on the subject. I recently purchased it and while flipping through the pages I noticed four separate instances (total of 151 words) in which they used direct quotes from people we interviewed in the film. I’m talking about word for word accurate. Normally, I wouldn ..read more

I commissioned some art from Fiverr and did not have a company name at the time so I selected for the copyright to be under my name rather than a business name. If I make some posters with the art can I place text on the bottom that says (C) 'company name'? Or am I required to put my name on it? submitted by /u/Swiss_Cheese9797 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
