My space correlates with my busy life & balances it out. I am often on the run with skateboarding, jumping into shoots of all kinds as a model or actor, and photographing for work. My life often keeps my schedule overwhelming– but it is indeed the way I enjoy it! My life is such a blessing, but I need time & space to totally disconnect & make sure I care for my mind & body. One of the first things I love to do in the morning is make nice organic coffee pour over & then a super healthy smoothie. Immediately after I love to journal about things I have gratitude for in my life ..read more

What We’ve Been Up To: April

For the past two years, I’ve been cycling to work on an e-bike. Smells on my commute: citrus blossoms, front yard roses, starchy rice cooking at a commercial kitchen, exhaust fumes and pavement, always always always the distant smell of weed, beef broth and onions (Cole's), and of course your — let’s use a perfumery term here — indolic and, um, earthy smells. Our commute isn’t faster than a car, but the bike allows immersion in the sensory elements of the world around; a physical way to mark the boundaries of the work day; being part of a community. Lately I’ve been gravitating toward t ..read more

What’s Up With Ojai Lavender?

by Valerie Horeczko

When we launched Ojai Lavender early last year, we were pleasantly surprised at how quickly it became a bestseller. Our goal was to develop a true lavender scent, and were inspired by Central California and the relaxing vortex that is the small mountain town of Ojai. After tons of positive feedback and careful consideration, we’ve decided to expand this scent’s collection to include Large Candles, Room & Linen Spray, refillable Hand & Body Wash, and Car Fragrance — officially launching on Tuesday, April 18th! A few nights ago, I found myself in bed at 1am, anxiously awake and seemingly incapable of rest. I had a lot on my mind, and the consequences of not falling asleep soon were high (the no-show fee for my 6 AM pilates class is $39.) Desperate, I reached tiredly for the bottle of hand balm I keep near my bed, hoping the familiar and comforting scent might help. I cupped my hands to my face and took a deep inhale, trying to focus on the scent — something that’s easy to take for granted after 7 years of loyal use. With extracts of vetiver, sandalwood, and petit grain the scent was grounding in ev ..read more

Welcome to What the Hell Is That Smell? A series where we explore ingredients used in the P.F. scents you love. What aromas do you think of when referring to fresh, open air? What does that feel like? Ozone is exactly that. This fragrance ingredient has an airy, fresh aroma. Think of a cool, dewy breeze on the coastline, or a crisp,2 spring day right before it rains. Ozone gives the feeling of open-air and space and adds the fresh, airy facet to marine fragrances. You can find this pleasant top note in our newest seasonal scent, Saltwater Jasmine. WHAT IS IT? Introducing: Saltwater Jasmine

It’s no secret the impact fragrance has on our mood. Studies have suggested a significant role fragrance has in the alteration of cognition, mood, and behavior. With the end of winter just around the corner, we’re releasing a new, seasonal scent that encapsulates spring’s renewal with its soft and dewy scent. This fragrance was designed to encourage feelings of calm during moments of self-care with its notes of sea moss, bergamot, and sandalwood — with the latter being known to promote relaxation and reduce stress. Saltwater Jasmine was inspired by mornings in coastal California towns. This ..read more

In our warehouse, we have two giant 2,000 lb wax melters named Patty and Tuna. Across from them runs a 60 ft conveyor with a heat lamp for smoothing candle tops called Melton John. This — the naming — all started back in 2013 when I purchased a 50 lb wax melter (Rosie) with the money from my first ever “big PO”. Naming machines — or more commonly cars, or plants — isn’t just a cute way to personify the things we share space with. It also means that we take better care of them by bestowing the honor of a name — we are elevating them to a “character in our life”, which changes the way we inter ..read more

Welcome to What the Hell Is That Smell? A series where we explore ingredients used in the P.F. scents you love. A decadent heartwood with an earthy and balsamic character that’s a popular ingredient in perfumery. Let’s dive into the origins of guaiacwood, what it smells like, and what P.F. scents contain this pleasant ingredient. Where does it come from?
