SAHP Burned out and making mistake after mistake

I do not know what to do. I have been messing up every single day. I am exhausted. I never get enough rest. For context we live in NYC. My wife was supposed to go to the Statue of Liberty with our daughter on Wednesday; that is what my wife told me. I bought the tickets on November 1st. I made sure they were all set with directions and how to get there and they were on time and everything and it turned out the tickets were for Tuesday instead. I don’t know how I didn’t catch that. It was always my wife’s outing with our daughter so I also don’t know why my wife didn’t just have it in her iCal ..read more

Is there a “homeschool” curriculum that you would recommend for pre-k?

My daughter will be 2 later this year. But she’s pretty smart in comparison to other children I’ve known at her age (that’s not me bragging, just giving you the reason to want to start this) and so I want to start a school-like system in our home after her birthday once I see where she stands in terms of development. So, is there anything that you guys followed that wasn’t an actual school but just a curriculum that helped you? submitted by /u/bullshithistorian14 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Returning to normal life with 2nd baby

I just had my 2nd 4 days ago. Overall, I’m feeling pretty good besides the lack of sleep and daily evening anxiety moments. I sometimes get into my head with overthinking some things with the baby too. I had a pretty good routine going with my toddler before and am craving to return back to our normal. The weather is also starting to get nicer so I’m excited to get outside. I’d love to hear any (positive) personal experiences of those that returned to their daily life with their second baby. How soon did you start going out/doing your regular things? How did it work with baby? submitted by ..read more

15 MO Separation Anxiety and Vomiting at Bedtime - Advice Needed

I am the SAHP for 15 MO daughter who is overall very content and sociable - both in general and with other adults she knows well. In recent weeks, she has become very anxious at bedtime and will not let anyone else put her down (including dad). She starts crying if I leave the room, and can work herself up to the point of vomiting after being put in crib. She can also do this when I put her down because she doesn’t want me to leave (but sometimes this doesn’t happen). It breaks my heart. She was sleep trained at 5 months (Ferber) and usually sleeps through the night. It is so hard to know how ..read more

Are you saving for retirement?

Are you saving for retirement for you specifically while you’re staying home? (separately from any accounts your partner has for them/through their job). What do people do? I’m not, because while we can live on my husband’s salary and are home owners in a HCOL city, saving for my retirement isn’t in cards right now financially. It’s the biggest sacrifice of me being a SAHP and I don’t know how much it should worry me. When my youngest goes to school I’ll be 30 and I have a Master’s degree in a health care speciality, so part of me feels like the loss of not working while my children are young ..read more

My “village” is disappearing and it sucks

When my baby was born, everyone in my and my husband’s family wanted to babysit. Our families were practically fighting over who would get to babysit on the weekends. They wanted to see and hold her 24/7. But as our baby’s gotten older, no one babysits anymore. Now we’re lucky to have a babysitter once every three or four months. I guess the appeal of the “new baby” has worn off. I don’t know. It’s always been hard being a SAHP, but having a village made it so much easier. It was amazing getting so many breaks and having so much help. I had so many weekends to catch up on cleaning, self care ..read more

Does this sound like my babysitter is quitting?

I'm a SAHM with 2 kids, 5 and 3. In January, we hired a babysitter to come 12hrs per week so that I can work on some projects around the house, rest (I have a chronic illness), run errands, doctors appts, etc. She's a high schooler. She's been great in that my kids love her, but she's a little unreliable for showing up on time, calling out sick frequently, etc. But, I know that it's her first job, so I get it and I don't mind being flexible, since I'm home anyway. Anyway, today she let me know she is going on a trip next Wednesday and doesn't know when she will be back, as her parents want to ..read more

I feel so defeated today. Last night was supposed to be our one date night. Haven't had one in years. We were supposed to go to a concert I've been anticipating for months. Probably my favorite artist of all time. The sitter no called, no showed. We don't have a village, we don't have a backup sitter. My partner tried to persuade me to go alone. We live in the town he grew up in. He has tons of friends and all I have is him and one childhood friend that so happened to move here.So of course, I'm not going alone. I expressed how disappointed I was because I haven't had a night out in ages and ..read more

Depression

It's gotten the best of me. Also burnout. My hubs and I are with our 3 kids basically 24/7. On Thursdays the twins go to a family friend to be watched for a couple hours, but we keep our youngest right now. So no true alone time. We're not snapping at the kids so much this week so that's nice. My husband has lost all ability to do anything other than work. Maybe he'll unload the dishwasher two days after it's done and basically empty. While I do all kid care during the day, all the cooking (3 meals and snacks), chores other than dishes, I go to school with my licensing test at the end of the ..read more
