This is an absolutely horrifying case study in Sydney.   On a lovely 28°C day, experts at Western Sydney University found synthetic turf to measure 89.2°C. This is just shy of 90°C and close to BOILING temperature. This is due to the black rubber infill backing of the astroturf, which has a low thermal mass that heats up very quickly under normal light conditions. This temperature can cause significant burns on the soles of your feet, and the only solution is to avoid areas with synthetic turf throughout summer completely. Imagine not being able to use your garden for three months of the ..read more

Natural Lawn is Proven to be a Bushfire Retardant

During the 2019/20 Australian bushfire season more than 18.6 million hectares (46 million acres) of land was burnt. New research confirms that natural lawn provides a bushfire retardant space and that: “Living turf, even turf under severe moisture stress, is highly resistant to ignition, and had to be in a dead or near dead state and extremely low moisture content before it would sustain fire spread”.  Another Horrifying Fact about Synthetic Turf: Synthetic grass comprises a mixture of combustible plastics like the rubber granule infill used  which are predisposed to both meltin ..read more

(Hint: Even when you think it’s not water…it’s probably water). During prolonged hot weather, it doesn’t take long for your entire lawn to quickly dry out – particularly if you haven’t provided your lawn with the necessary products to ensure both lawn and soil are prepared for the heat. Lawn under heat or moisture stress becomes dry and crunchy underfoot, turn a blue-grey and then turns light brown. As temperatures are often over 35 degrees, you will need to handwater between your nominated watering days: https://www.watercorporation.com.au/Help-and-advice/Waterwise/Garden/Tips-for-hand-wateri ..read more

Time to Apply Wetting Agents to Protect your Lawn this Summer
Green Acres | Roll On Lawn Perth

Western Australian soils can dry out extremely quickly as they build silica overtime which make soils waxy and hydrophobic (water-repellant), which is why it is so important to applying good quality wetting agents that are effective and long-lasting. The Aquaforce Soil Wetter and Bi-Agra Moisture Retainer are specifically designed for WA soils and are only sold by licensed turf farms and stores. These products work an absolute treat on WA sands particularly, but are also great in hybrid soils, clays and loams in hot months. They will assist your lawns and gardens in holding water.
