I am pleased to have my piece Dissonance 4 from the Grand Canyon series as part of the show #COLLAGENOW with Denise Bibro Fine Art. Denise Bibro Fine Art celebrates the ancient tradition of collage, which is an art form loved by many. The word collage originates from the French word coller, meaning “to glue” or “to stick together”. First developed in China in 200 B.C., it was then picked up as an art form victoriously in the 10th Century by Japanese calligraphers, who glued paper and used text on surfaces when writing poetry. The Asian world gravitated to the inherent uses of paper as a means ..read more

Recently, I partnered with Garden City Placemaking Fund, Conservation Voters of Idaho, and Surel’s Place to paint a mural on the Coiled Wines tasting room located on 34th and Chinden in Garden City. I have done several interior murals where my artwork was scanned, enlarged, printed on vinyl wall covering, and applied to the wall, but this is my first public painted mural and largest artwork to date, measuring 26’ wide x 16’ tall. Thankfully, my abstract landscape work with its clean lines and flat colors lends itself to the large-scale format of mural painting. The goal of this project is to i ..read more

In October, I traveled to the town of Truth or Consequences (TorC), New Mexico for an artist residency where I made paper and art for two weeks, unhindered by the distractions of daily life. Set along the Rio Grande River near the Gila Wilderness, this residency offered space dedicated to making paper out of local plant fibers, specifically invasive plants (Tamarisk and Giant Cane) and to continue my pursuit as a papermaker. I am so much closer to my goal, which is to become proficient in papermaking and to incorporate foraged plant fibers into my collage work-- creating art that is literally ..read more

Two years ago I began learning the art of papermaking which has expanded my control over the paper I use in my collages. I had the honor of spending time under the mentorship and expertise of Tom Bennick of Mountain Home before his passing this spring. During our time together, he shared invaluable information, including helping me gather the supplies and equipment I needed for a home studio. I am so grateful for the opportunity to get to know Tom and learn from such a talented papermaker. In August, made possible after receiving a grant from the Alexa Rose Foundation, I was able to pursue a l ..read more
