When I think of high-end Swiss watchmakers, I must admit I tend to overlook Chopard. The so-called “Big Three” tend to get the most attention in this space; Vacheron Constantin, Audemars Piguet, and Patek Philippe, all three steeped in history and accolades. But after seeing the new Chopard L.U.C Quattro Limited Edition watch for 2018, I’m putting this brand firmly on my radar; featuring both the Geneva Seal and COSC chronometer certification, as well as a 4-barrel (or “Quattro”) power reserve of 9 days, this is a timepiece offering some serious horological clout. Corum Admiral Legend 42 Watch Review

When it comes to Corum, most watch folks would probably call to mind the iconic Bubble line, or perhaps the Golden Bridge line. Those are certainly iconic in their own right, but they’re fairly “recent” additions to the catalog. If you want to go a bit further back, say, to the 1960s, then you’re talking about the Admiral collection. As you might expect, this line is particularly influenced by the water, ships, and sailing. While they come in a variety of sizes, and you have some options with complications, today, we’re keeping it simple with a look at the Corum Admiral Legend 42 ..read more

Zodiac Super Sea Wolf ZO9205 Limited Edition Watch Review

As a 2017 release, the Zodiac Super Sea Wolf ZO9205 is an interesting limited edition version of the Super Sea Wolf from Zodiac. It also happens to be the first Zodiac Super Sea Wolf watch I’ve reviewed that has the “truer to original” dial that evokes Zodiac dive watches from the 1960s. Zodiac was among the first brands to release recreational diver’s watches in the 1950s. This limited edition offers an elegant and useful tool watch design, in a modestly-sized case for those who are fond of more classic sport watch sizes. It also happens to include an excellent Chronometer-rated mechani ..read more

Timex Marlin Watch Review

I‘ll be the first to admit that the idea of a dedicated “dress watch” isn’t exactly something that appeals to me. In fact, there are plenty of options out there today that can serve a watch enthusiast in multiple ways. Your average Omega Speedmaster, for example, can take on dress watch duties while also serving as a very capable everyday wear option. However, last year I noticed a bit of a shift in the way one particular brand started positioning their releases and Timex – the American brand that stole our hearts during childhood – started enticing us with hot vintage re-releases as wel ..read more

Arnold & Son Globetrotter Worldtimer Watch

Let’s get one thing straight; the Arnold Son Globetrotter is not, strictly speaking, a world-timer watch. In fact, I’m not even entirely sure it can be called a GMT watch. The La Chaux-de-Fonds-based manufacture waxes lyrical in their press release about the large 3-dimensional hemisphere dominating the dial, claiming it to be “one of the world’s largest rotating 3D world-time displays on a wristwatch,” with some justification; it is a beautiful element of wrist-sculpture. However, there’s no apparent way to use this watch to tell the time in numerous time zones simultaneously, nor is i ..read more

Girard-Perregaux Laureato Chronograph 38mm Watch Review

In different sizes and levels of complications, the Laureato has been around since its revival in 1996, but it is only since Girard-Perregaux‘s major updating of the collection in early 2016 that we see a notable uptick in focus, pricing aggressiveness, variety of design, and functionality in the Laureato line. The subject of this review is the Girard-Perregaux Laureato Chronograph 38mm (reference 81040-11-131-11A as seen here), a member of the new-for-2018 line of smaller Laureato Chronographs, available in either 42 or, as seen here, 38mm wide. Bored with unnecessarily inflated watches ..read more

To please all you jet-setting divers out there, Ball has announced the newest addition to the Engineer line: the Ball Engineer Master II Diver Worldtime, limited to 1,000 pieces. Ball is no stranger to creating these adventure driven combinations of complications and style, and for this venture they’ve sought to create a true world-time function inside a dive watch body. The Diver Worldtime has a steel case, and measures in at a 45mm in diameter, with a case height of 15.4mm.
