Aluminum alloy weldability

Hello all, Ill preface by saying im a student, so if there’s a blatantly obvious resource to answer my question please help me out. So from my experience with robotics and internship work ive always struggled with welding 6065-T6 aluminum (square or rectangle tubing typ 1/8” thick). It takes so much practice and prep to get a proper weld without cracks and even when its achieved, the welds are a huge point of failure for my applications. Since the welds are the point of failure after some medium impacts im assuming this means the welds did not get full penetration. To remove this point of fai ..read more

Hi guys as you know the mechanical engineering is a flexible career and have many applications, in that sense i want to know guys what is your favorite, the most interesting and in what you want to work, choose one and explain in comment why you choose that. I group them into 3 large branches, solids mechanic, thermofluids and mechatronic, but if you consider that there are more, you can comment on which ones and why you like them so much. Hi all, I am a senior in highschool and im heading to college in the fall for ME. My top two choices right now are UC Davis and SDSU. I live in San Diego so sdsu would be convenient, however that is not necessarily a factor I want to consider. Anyone have any input to consider? submitted by /u/Inevitable_Side7318 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

You probably recognize me from my previous post. I had a quick chat with my current boss and he said I'll be 'taking a step back' by leaving my role in quality, and going into design. He also expressed that they won't be giving him someone to replace me. Also that he had plans for my growth, and the new department doesn't have a lot of growth opportunities. But he never expressed this in our meetings and never elaborated on this at any given point. I don't know if this is true but I've made up my mind and not looking back. Feel free to share what you think about this. submitted by /u/Educati ..read more

Patent inventor question

I worked on a product that my company filed for a patent on. I wasn’t familiar with the patent process, so I didn’t think anything of it when they asked for drawings to file, but I’ve now learned that another employee (above my station) is listed as the inventor, and I was left off. To be clear, I didn’t invent the specific mechanism, but I did the work to make it manufacturable for mass production. The form that it exists in the patent drawings is my work. From my brief research it looks like there can be multiple inventors listed, so I’m at a loss for why they would leave me off the patent ..read more

Hello there everyone hope you are all having a good day. I'm here to ask a simple question regarding studies and extracurricular activities and personal projects. I am an aspiring mechanical engineering student and later this year I'll start with my first year of college. One thing always bothered me in school was how just theory ridden everything was (even though I really liked the chapters regarding semiconductors, Circuit, pulleys, Dynamics in general), I always wished it to be bit more than that. I used to see other people some of them of my age creating cool stuff and it makes me very en ..read more
