The Quality Chop House, Farringdon  The Quality Chop House has been on my list to visit for some time - and rightly so as one of London’s oldest and most well respected restaurants. The restaurant has been around since the 1800’s, originally as a working mens club but thankfully dropping that to become a very meaty restaurant, butchers, wine bar and shop. They really can do everything!  Located in Farringdon in a beautiful old building, it’s a fairly central affair easily accessible from Old Street, Holborn, Farringdon, or even if you fancy a 30 minute walk from Waterloo through ..read more

Bermonsey Larder, Bermondsey

Bermondsey Larder, Bermondsey  Bermondsey Larder is located in bustling Bermondsey, minutes from the vibrant Maltby Street, and it has quickly become one of my go to places to recommend to people looking for somewhere to eat in the SE1 area.  It seems that everything Robin Gill does is just excellent. I was incredibly sad when The Dairy shut in Clapham, somewhere that I’d longed after in my early days in London, and enjoyed in my later years in London - and always conveniently close to me which made it even better! Thankfully, Bermondsey Larder is filling that void with many ..read more

Noble Rot, Soho If you’re a wine fanatic, you’ll have heard of Noble Rot in London. Their Soho location, on bustling Greek Street, is somewhere I’ve wanted to go for some time as reviews of their food and wine continued to pour out of Instagram and various websites. And why wouldn’t it be so highly rated with a wine list that most would be blown away by, and truly exceptional French influenced food? It’s hard not to fall head over hills.  With two sites open now in London you’ve got the choice of two locations to wander to, but Noble Rot on Greek Street definitely offers the mo ..read more

Osteria Antica Bologna, Clapham

Since I moved to London over 6 years ago, I’ve always wanted a local Italian - but in all the places I lived, I never found the one. The one that made me want to keep going back for more. But finally, after years of hunting I’ve found it in Osteria Antica Bologna.  Located on Northcote Road, this place has been around for over 20 years and provides the most homely feel with their rustic wood panelled interiors and friendly staff who seem genuinely happy to get back to having people dine with them.  But, to be quite honest with you, the food is so excellent that even if - and they ..read more

It’s official - the full blown lockdown in the UK is over, hopefully for the last time, and our hospitality industry that we love so much is beginning to shake off the cobwebs and fling open its doors. I, for one, couldn’t be happier to see my inbox filling with reservation emails and my diary looking a little more like a diary should as I begin to plot out attacking the list of restaurants that seems to have grown only tenfold in the last four months. Restaurants across the UK are navigating the new rules; terraces have been built, gazebos purchased and outdoor furniture crammed onto any s ..read more

London’s Top 5 Tasting Menus

I am more than partial to a tasting menu - in fact I love it when a restaurant offers one and it can often be the pulling factor for me to head there. But whilst my love can often be unrequited, one of my blogger friends Lloyd - from www.lloydstevens29.com - has seemingly covered them all with (pre-lockdown) weekly visits to do another fantastic tasting menu, and very kindly agreed to share the best of the best of London’s tasting menus with us. Over to you Lloyd... I like nothing better than heading into my favourite city of London and enjoy the finest food in some of the best restaurants ..read more

Just before lockdown, we visited a new arrival onto the London food scene, Joan, which is located in Shoreditch, and headed up by Niko Kontogiannatos, former head chef at Caravan Fitzrovia. Now, I have to admit that Caravan Fitzrovia had always been a favourite; I love the fresh but hearty foods, and I was even more excited to eat at Joan when I found out Niko was heading it up. The restaurant itself is just a moment from Shoreditch High Street station, in the former residence of Beach Blanket Babylon, and as you enter you’ll be reminded of the pre-covid days of dimly lit bars, funky setti ..read more

A Guide to Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Amsterdam is without a doubt my favourite European city; blending everything I love about London (the busy streets, the food scene, the bars) alongside with my home town of Tunbridge Wells (the massive open spaces, friendly people) into one fantastic, watery (and wet!) city.  Whilst it may well be known amongst a few for the wrong reasons, there’s so much more to this city than a one canal. The beautiful streets, surrounded by water, make you feel just happy at every turn and the general vibe in the city allows you to feel at home almost instantly.  I’ve been a supporter of Londo ..read more

Maison François, St James' Park

Maison François, nestled in between St James Park and Piccadilly, is a beautiful French all-day brasserie headed up by Matthew Ryle. Given they opened in the midst of a global pandemic, which has wreaked havoc on the hospitality industry, I’d say it was an incredibly bold move - and one that’s paid off.  We dined on the night that the second lockdown was announced - and given the news, you’d expect the staff to be a little gloomy as once again they’re plunged into the unknown, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. We arrived and greeted by the friendliest front of house, a ..read more

If you’ve not heard of Six by Nico coming to London, then I imagine you’ve been living under a rock. Despite launching in London under pretty testing times, it appears to have taken it by storm with a busy schedule and a pretty constant flow of insta pics.  The premise of Six by Nico is simple; ‘experience a brand new six course tasting menu every 6 weeks - each one themed upon a different place or  memory, from Chef Nico Simeone.’ Priced at £35 for 6-courses, with the wine pairing sitting at £33, it presents a reasonable mid-week dining experience at a much lower price brack ..read more
