The Port of Savannah’s Garden City Terminal is already the South Atlantic region’s busiest intermodal gateway, handling 38 trains per week of import and export cargo. The Mason Mega Rail project will deliver the largest on-dock intermodal rail facility for a port authority in North America. Iraq’s main port closed amid protests in Basra

Due to a nationwide protest in Iraq that began on Friday 25 October, all terminals are closed and have ceased operations as advised by the authorities. Currently, port operations in Umm Qasr, Iraq are closed, there is no cargo delivery process and all ships are staying at the port without operation. No further ships are allowed to enter Umm Qasr temporarily. The local Government at Basra also announced that Sunday 27 October was a holiday on occasion of the anniversary of death of Prophet Mohammed. Cargo Logistics is excited to announce the arrival of three additional ship-to-shore cranes with 155 feet of lift height to our hometown Port of Charleston. The cranes arrived in Charleston Harbor today aboard the Zhen Hua 28 vessel after a two-month journey from China. SCPA’s crane purchases are part of a multiyear effort to further modernize operations and upgrade infrastructure to handle larger ships. The Georgia Ports Authority moved 378,767 twenty-foot equivalent container units (TEUS) in July, an increase of 12.7 percent, or 42,668 TEUs, compared to the same month last year. It was the second busiest month on record for the Port of Savannah. “July was an incredible start to our fiscal year, with double-digit growth across our container, breakbulk and dry bulk operations,” said GPA Executive Director Griff Lynch. Switzerland-based Mediterranean Shipping Co. (MSC) has reportedly confirmed an order for 11 22,000-TEU vessels, which would not only be the largest order in the 47-year-old company’s history, but one of the biggest ever in the containership industry. 01/31/2017 Forwarders are expressing concern and confusion, on the eve of the new budget, over the recently implemented 4.5% ocean freight tax imposed on Indian importers. The tax came into effect on 22 January, with no notice, and is applied to all shipments imported into India which are ‘pre-paid’. If shipments are booked on the basis of cost and freight (C&F) or cost, insurance and freight (CIF), the ocean freight is paid by the exporter. The Northern California port says there is ample capacity to absorb cargo business at other Oakland terminals after a "unilateral" decision to depart by the joint operators of Outer Harbor Terminal LLC. The second largest terminal at the Port of Oakland is planning to cease their operations and turn the terminal back over to the port by the end of March.
