Does this recipe look good? I haven’t made soap in so long , I just want to be sure. Also, never used shea butter so I want to try that. My other parts I have made were just with the castor, sweet almond, olive & coconut and turned out okay. & it has fragrance %, but do I have to add fragrance or will it mess everything up? submitted by /u/mlcraw18 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Please help recreate this out of stock lush soap!

Lush recently had this rainbows and waterfalls soap that I became obsessed with, but I guess it was an Easter-only thing and now it’s gone. I got a screenshot of the ingredients, and I don’t care if I recreate the rainbow colors. I really just want the scent and the lather. I think the main scent of it is violet, but it really lingered more than most soaps and I loved it. Does anyone have any advice on how I can basically recreate it using the ingredients in the attached screenshot? submitted by /u/brokedownbitch [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Is removing LS film during dilution equivalent.....

Hey Folks, Trying to get dilution on a 90/10 Olive oil/Castor oil LS finished up and it's taking forever. Let's say I remove the skin that forms as the LS cools, and keep removing until no more skin forms....is this achieving the same goal as adding more water until the soap is properly diluted? Or am I removing something I don't want to remove when I do this? Thank you so much, soap geniuses! Details of my process below, in case this is useful. I'm open to being lambasted if I'm doing something stupid here.....it's maybe my 3rd or 4th LS cook and I always tend to have a heckuva time gettin ..read more

Shades of emulsification changes

I noticed that when stick blending after adding the oils that you can definitely see shade changes between blends, like it gets progressively lighter and lighter until it plateaus sort of .. After the initial pour, the mix is just sort of transparent then you stick blend for a few seconds and you get first level pale , then stick blend again for another few seconds and it levels up to a lighter pale, and you're not longer transparent, and after about 5 or so shades changes, you're basically close to or at trace. submitted by /u/interpreterdotcourt [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Lye concentration

I'm new to making soap and I'm pretty sure I got my numbers wrong or something. I got a lye with a concentration of 28% NaOH and made a CP batch with pure sunflower oil since it was the cheapest and easiest to get. SoapCalc said I needed 53 grams of naoh for 450 ml of oil and I only added 53 grams of lye, should I had done the conversion and add 189 grams of lye woth that concentration? submitted by /u/ifykyk10 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hello! I’ve been doing melt and pours and want to get into cold process soap! I want to make a soap that’s an avocado theme so I want to use avocado oil as one of the base ingredients. instead of doing a melt and pour , I figured let’s just start cold process! I attached a recipe from soap calculator and would love any input on it. I’m looking for the bar to be nice and firm after curing and provide a creamy and bubbly lather so if I need to tweak any of the % ratios let me know! (I noticed bubbly scored 14 on mine right now :/ ) Also if I plan on adding any extracts does that need to go ..read more

What happened to this batch?

I’ve been making cold process soap for quite awhile. This year I’ve already made over two hundred pounds of it to get ready for all of the markets. Yesterday I made two different batches that gelled side by side in my Nurture Soap double sided 7.5lb mold. One loaf turned out perfectly, the other loaf is just weird. I’m trying to decide if it’s glycerin rivers or a crackled deal. This is my first time with this mica and adding kaolin clay straight to the FO to anchor it. I soap with my oils and my lye between 112-118. And I CPOP all of my batches. There’s no “zap” with the tongue test. Re ..read more
