I forgot my lunch when I went to work. Luckily I had a gift card from Christmas that I hadn’t used. Saving money in the budget by going out to eat. Moneywin but not as health as a lunch as I had made. Sometimes you have to compromise. The post Finance Quickie Friday 3/6/20 appeared first on Little Brother Life Coach ..read more

The power of 5 I recently refinanced my student loan to 5 years and less than a 5% fixed rate. Now all my debts are under 5% and I have a 5 year plan. Be debt free. But that’s not all. I plan to pay off the loan in less than 5 years by paying over $500 a month (my rent isn’t even $500)! In 5 years I could be over a positive $50k net worth (market fluctuations pending). 5 is such a powerful number lately it seems, and I’ve been able to build a 5 year debt free plan just by trying to pay my loan off early. Financial truth time. I’ve been working my way out of debt and working on my finances for almost 7 years. I’ve come a long way and still have a way to go. But, honesty time, of those 7 years probably the first 3 or 4 (probably more) I definitely felt like shit was always falling apart and I would NEVER get ahead. Make tough choices, keep making tough choices, but enjoy the journey. Most people learn along away it’s not necessarily the stuff we buy makes us happy. Stuff is just a tool to solve a problem. The level of problem and quality of solution is dependent on the individual. Hin ..read more

I don’t gamble because winning $100 doesn’t give me great pleasure. But losing $100 pisses me off. Alex Trebek of Jeopardy Jeff Kreisler on the Afford Anything podcast with Paula Pant mentions we feel a loss more than an equal gain. A loss of $10 dollars would be overcome by a gain of $20. Why do you think we feel a loss of money twice as much as a gain of the same amount? The post Finance Quickie Friday 2/14/2020 appeared first on Little Brother Life Coach ..read more

The FI Command Center Do you have a command center? What exactly is a “command center?” A command center is a place to keep track of daily/weekly/monthly notes and details. The command center is usually placed in a high traffic area where the household can refer to it multiple times as needed. Some opt for their command center to be placed on or near the fridge, others near a doorway where the family comes in and out. A command center helps (obviously) center ideas, thoughts and business for the week. It is a great resource as a reminder for meal plans, appointments, upcoming events ..read more

What is Burnout? There is a point in Financial Independence (FI) where people start to feel burned out. One of the main counterarguments to FI is the You Only Live Once retort. For some, they are all in with FI that the goal is to save every single penny to get to financial independence and retire early as soon as humanly possible in their situation. Some can feel this burning out in the debt paydown phase while working side jobs to the extreme and feel physically and emotionally burned out. Some work a job they can’t stand for a higher income to achieve FI and RE (retire early). Some ju ..read more

The Millionaire Formula I recommend reading, “The Millionaire Next Door” by Dr. Tom Stanley, to better understand this plan and why it works. The book is also a great teaching tool to living below one’s means. Financial experts recommend this book. Scott Alan Turner, the “Financial Rockstar” recommends this book in over five different episodes of his podcasts alone. Ramsey recommends this book to individuals and couples struggling to get on a budget and get out of debt. Ramsey and Turner are millionaires, I am not. If you question anything in this blog, (and feel free to), then go ahead ..read more
