Waste Not, Want Not has played an even more prominent role in the past year and it is here to stay for us. Did you know that each year in Australia, over 5 million tonnes of food ends up in landfill? That's enough to fill 9,000 Olympic swimming pools! I purchase, prepare and serve, on average 20 meals each week (80 serves for our family) and am pleased to share that our weekly grocery bill has reduced by 30%. Trust me, we don't go hungry at all. Shopping seasonally helps immensely alongside with preparing meals that uses all those seasonal produce.  In the last fortnight, I ..read more

I am no stranger to the adage, “when one door closes, another one opens.” It feels like a song I repeat when the winds of change come in life. If I am honest, I do handle change well when it makes sense but when it does not, I don't. Then again, does anyone? When tides of change roll in, I suddenly feel panicked and anxious, as if I could be carried out to sea by the waves at any moment. Something about the shift of life makes me feel out of control. December 2019 - January 2020 had been filled with so much change, so many new experiences; I am grateful that I have found myself thriving in a ..read more

Glazed Salmon with Quinoa and Spring Vegetables

A few years ago, I ordered a quinoa salad at a hotel and fell in love with the texture and nuttiness. Whenever quinoa is featured on the menu, I would order it. For reasons unknown to me, it has never been prepared at home until recently. To my surprise and delight, quinoa is easy to prepare with the added bonus of being nutritionally dense. This bowl of deliciousness features everyday ingredients and flavours that my family love. Its recipe was mindfully developed to support my vision of providing my family with  simple, wholesome meals using real food and reduce our reliance on overly ..read more

The adventure starts in the air as the pilot navigates between the majestic snow capped mountains ensuring the plane's safe descent. This is quite spectacular so be sure to grab a window seat! About Queenstown This enchanting regional city sits on the shores of the South Island's Lake Wakatipu. Renowned for adventure sports, it's also a base for exploring the region's dramatic vineyards (Lake Hayes) and historic mining town (such as Arrowtown). There is bungee jumping off Kawarau Gorge Suspension Bridge and jet-boating on the Shotover and Dart rivers. In winter, there is skiing on the slop ..read more

Most of us are familiar with Queenstown in New Zealand, what about the neighbouring town of Wanaka located an hour's drive away? If you have never been, here's some information that might pique your interest. About Wanaka Through my eyes, this picturesque town is a hub for outdoor adventures and gastronomical adventures. You can go skydiving, climbing or mountaineering and there are hundreds of kilometers of tracks for hiking or biking. The crystal-clear water of Lakes Wanaka and Hawea as well as rivers are ideal for kayaking, fishing, lake cruises and jet boating, or to get an aerial per ..read more

Many in my circle have asked why the love affair with New Zealand? Well, allow me to set the scene for you. Some 20 years ago, my birthday present was a holiday to Queenstown with my then-boyfriend (husband now). Needless to say, we had a glorious time as would any carefree young adults. A few years after, we chose New Zealand as our honeymoon destination (3 glorious weeks combing the entire South Island) and new memories were made. A few more trips were had and the most significant being in the year 2009. I was undergoing fertility treatments and on that trip discovered that it was un ..read more

"Minions" at Work

Wouldn't it be wonderful if we were assisted by a team of Minions like the ones in the animated movie Despicable Me? That might prove counterproductive as depicted in the movie! However I live in hope that enabling my human "minions" at an early age should reap rewards for me and them in the long run. From a young age, the twins were encouraged to help out around the home, starting with putting their toys back in the box and with time, their assistance was extended beyond their own stations with mixed outcomes. We persisted, nagged and still use the same combination of persistence and naggi ..read more

Term 1 of the school year came and went in a blink of 10 weeks. School work and corporate work, early starts at school, lengthy work days, housework, home-cooked meals, after school activities, etc. In between all that, there's also the anticipation of the unexpected. All working families are familiar with the constant juggling and at times, find ourselves in conflict with the various roles and one thing for certain, children always seem to rise above the occasion. We are thankful for their resilience and agility. We are also very fortunate that I have the flexibility to work from home and ti ..read more
