AAD Transport entered administration after HMRC presented a winding up petition for an unpaid VAT bill of £2.2m, a report to creditors has revealed. Writing for Transport News, Chris Tindall reported that the Kirriemuir-based haulage firm has now closed down with the loss of 65 jobs after attempts to sell the business, which Begbies Traynor described as ‘profitable’, failed. Euro NCAP, the EU body that organises crash and safety tests on new vehicles, is to launch a Truck Safe rating scheme. The launch is in direct response to data showing that while trucks represent only 3% of vehicles on Europe’s roads, they are involved in almost 15% of all EU road fatalities. The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) won’t be issuing paper certificates for an HGV that has passed its annual test from Monday 29 April 2024, and will instead go digital. “We are making this change to become more environmentally friendly,” a spokesperson confirmed to Transport News. “However, we will still issue paper documentation for vehicles that fail the test for the time being.” DVSA already offer certificates digitally via its ‘MOT history service’ and want to move away from issuing a paper copy of pass certificates at the time of test. Transport and logistics professionals are the least happy workers among all sectors, according to the findings of the recently launched Career Happiness Index. Collated by career specialists The Futures Group, the index analysed data on culture, diversity, work/life balance, senior leadership, compensation and career development. It found that transport and logistics workers were in 10th place, at the bottom of the chart, scoring just 61.2/100, making them the least satisfied employees of all the sectors analysed. A Durham-based logistics firm has become the fifth new member to join Pallet-Track in 2024, as part of major growth plans. The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) is looking at putting ministry plates solely online and not having a paper version on display inside the truck or on the trailer. Going paperless, like it did with the ‘tax disc’, is part of plans to improve services. It’s at the consultation stage, so your views are welcome. It closes on 5th May 2024.
