We would like to say a HUGE congratulations to Dan Sawatzky and Devin Wiebe on completing a task that most people would never dream of. Both men ran/walked for 24 hours at separate events. Both men had a different reason for doing this. Dan ran the same weekend as family camp. Most of his run was by himself. What kept him motivated and focused was keeping the families at camp in mind. Each family at camp has a diagnosis of their own, as did the Sawatzky family. Their son Alexander passed away in 2017, after an 8 month battle with DIPG, an aggressive brain tumour. “On December 20th, 2015 at 10 years of age, Janelle was diagnosed with High Risk Stage 3 Favorable Wilms Tumor LOH+. It was quite the Christmas – admitted on the 20th, surgery on the 24th, and Christmas Day in the PICU. By January 7th, Janelle started the first of 12 rounds of Radiation and 33 weeks of chemotherapy. She completed treatment September 2016 and has had been NED since then. Janelle graduated to the AfterCare Program in 2022. Janelle graduated with Honors from St. Boniface Diocesan High School. She is applying to be an Air Traffic Controller.
