From the York Press 29th December 2023 A charity working to help others in memory of a York schoolboy who died from a brain tumour is to celebrate its 10th year.   OSCAR’s Paediatric Brain Tumour Charity was launched in memory of Oscar Hughes from Dunnington who died aged nine in 2014. Oscar’s parents Marie and Ian Hughes set up the charity later that year. From the York Press 29th December 2023 A charity working to help others in memory of a York schoolboy who died from a brain tumour is to celebrate its 10th year.  OSCAR’s Paediatric Brain Tumour Charity was launched in memory of Oscar Hughes from Dunnington who died aged nine in 2014. Oscar’s parents Marie and Ian Hughes set up the charity later that year. In 2020, Ian also died of a brain tumour and a few days after Ian’s funeral his son, four-year-old Milo, was diagnosed with the same disease and died a year later. From the York Press 24th September 2023 A York youngster who has raised huge amounts of money for the charity set up in memory of his brother has been recognised with a Community Pride Award. Lucas Hughes has been named Spirit of Youth, sponsored by YO1 Radio. The teenager raised £24,500 for OSCAR’s Paediatric Brain Tumour Charity by climbing Yorkshire’s three peaks. Today it is ten years ago since Oscar celebrated his last birthday.  I have just spent an hour looking at that sentence and crying. I needed a good cry. Life is going fast at the moment and I haven’t given myself time to sit down and just miss my boys. My body is in a constant state of tension and nothing I do makes it relax – so the last resort is crying.
