The Local Government Board of Elche council approved the extraordinary dispatch of the detailed study project for Block 1-2 of Sector AR-1 of Arenales del Sol included in the General Urban Planning Plan, giving the green light for the first stage towards a new aparthotel complex being constructed. The manager of Orihuela Cultural, Vox advisor Ramón Gabín, has resigned after his umpteenth controversy. Gabín has been accused of workplace harassment, which has already led to the sick leave of some employees, according to the letter that one of these employees sent to the mayor of Orihuela, Pepe Vegara. The Metro Dance Club in Bigastro has been closed down for three years, and the management fined 50,000 euro, for repeated non-compliance offences. The Port of Alicante has cleaned up the bust of Archibald Dickson, captain of the ship SS Stanbrook, that left the port of Alicante carrying more than 2,500 last refugees just before the end of the civil war. A Nazi swastika had been painted on the monument, together with a black stain on the metal plate, bearing the inscription “In memory of the Republicans repressed and exiled by Franco’s dictatorship”. The Scorpions will have to wait rather longer than they first thought to see their football stadium renovated after the Orihuela council failed in its bid to obtain a grant from the Valencian Community.
