Why are Rats and Mice such a danger to us and our properties? With their constantly growing teeth rodents are continuously gnawing on things. The older a rodents grows, the stronger and longer their teeth become, hence the need to constantly chew. They have been known to chew away at electrical wires and plumbing in the roof causing short circuits or water damage, and have even sparked fires in the process. Nows the time to start thinking about getting on top of those pesky ants that have been wandering around all winter, or those annoying daddy long legs you’ve been noticing in the corners of rooms both high and low. Keep in mind, if they’re left too much longer, before you know it, the warmer breeding season will be upon us, and so too will their ever expanding family! The tropical weather we have experienced over the spring and summer months this year have kept most pest controllers in the district and Victoria wide on their toes. Online pest control forums have had Pesties far and wide exclaiming how busy they have become due to the constant perfect breeding conditions of late, along with the rise in customer call-backs. Generally we start the season with a bit of rain and then a long hot dry, this year however, we have been bombarded constantly with rain and heat, rain then heat, this constant combination inevitably produces humidity, something the insect ..read more

As the new year approaches and the weather hopefully warms up, we will start to notice more and more wasps, and the worst of them being the nasty European wasp. European wasps are roughly the same size as honeybees. They’re identified by their bright yellow and black body, with triangular markings on the abdomen. Unlike bees, the European wasp can sting repeatedly, and this sting causes intense pain and swelling. European Wasps are more aggressive than bees and generally attack when their nests are disturbed, with their continual stinging a more severe anaphylaxis reaction may occur. You can m ..read more

It’s that time of year again….. Ocean Grove residents amongst many other suburbs in and around the Geelong, Bellarine and Surfcoast areas have been experiencing quite a lot of insect activity of late as the weather attempts to warm up. Spiders, ants and termites to name but a few of our nuisance pests, have been actively going about their day-to-day business more and more frequently. Our phones are telling that story quite clearly. I have no doubt they are just as confused by the crazy weather patterns as we are! Ant baiting, a very effective way to achieve colony control But as the weather ..read more

Prevention is better than cure! Building a new home? Does your building permit say you are not in a declared termite zone and termite management is not required? NEWS FLASH!!! TERMITES CAN”T READ! Victoria is Australia’s only state apart from Tasmania that has ‘Undeclared’ termite areas even though pest controllers are treating infestations in these areas on a regular basis. This means in certain areas of Geelong, Bellarine and the Surfcoast you will have no notification there are possibly termites around, increasing the risk of termite ingress to your most valuable asset. We recently undertook an Inspection in Jan Juc after a concerned call from a homeowner who was having their carpet replaced in several rooms. When lifting the existing carpet, they found active termites running along the edging strip. Upon further inspection by us later that day, more activity was found in the wall framing timbers and skirting boards of the same rooms and also on the other side of the building in a nib wall leading to a sunken lounge. Moving the inspection out to the yard, we noticed a mature native gum only 20 meters from the building with large amounts of mudding in the bott ..read more

How often and when should I get my property treated for spiders? This question gets asked of me quite often, the simple answer in my humble opinion is, there is no one answer that covers all situations. In saying that, generally, if it is a maintenance treatment to keep spiders at bay, timing is the key for best results. I recommend annual treatment to be undertaken, usually once the weather starts to warm up around Spring time. Spring is usually when webbing spiderlings and crawling spiderlings hatch and either blow in on the wind or crawl in from their nearby nurseries. This, in my opin ..read more
