Why this Center City dispensary is closing on 4/20
After four years in operation, Philadelphia-based Ethos Cannabis will close its flagship medical marijuana retail location on the ground floor of the American Postal Workers House.
However, this won’t take effect until close of business on April 20, which is coincidentally 4/20 — a date synonymous with cannabis and known as the busiest day of the year for dispensaries, celebrating the popular marijuana holiday. Continue reading…

Grays Ferry traffic project sparks concern in Fitler Square
The state recently awarded the city a $1.6 million grant to help fund two related street improvement projects proposed at South Street’s Triangle Plaza. The uncontroversial part would make the temporary public space at South and 23rd Street/Grays Ferry Avenue into a permanent fixture by extending sidewalks.
The plan to improve pedestrian safety by reversing traffic flow on three blocks of 24th Street, however, faces opposition from residents of nearby Fitler Square, where daily peak-hour traffic wo ..read more

In what may become the strangest lost sign Cincinnati — or anywhere else for that matter — has ever seen, Eagles legend Jason Kelce has lost his Super Bowl LII ring in an inflatable pool of Skyline Chili.
The former Eagles center revealed on his “New Heights” podcast Wednesday that the ring is missing after being used as a prop in the “Lombaby Games” event the podcast held last week at the University of Cincinnati. In the competition between the Bearcats’ student-athletes and regular students, the ring was used specifically in the stage that involved kiddy pools filled with Cincinnati’s famou ..read more

A long drive home brought a lightbulb moment for husband-and-wife JD Walsh and Shireen Qadri.
Traveling back from a visit to Qadri’s family in Maryland with a package of her mom’s spice blend for rogan josh, the couple had been discussing the difficulties of cooking Indian food from scratch and the convenience of pre-prepared spice mixes when “it just sort of all clicked,” Qadri told Billy Penn. “Like, why not do this with more dishes?”
The result is Moji Masala, a line of organic, freshly-ground spice blends, designed to help home cooks conveniently create a range of Indian meat- or ve ..read more

Theaters routinely spend thousands of dollars on a stage set — it’s not unusual for the tab to top $50,000 for materials alone, not including labor costs.
But, at a time when theaters are still struggling financially post-pandemic, it doesn’t have to be that way. In fact, it shouldn’t be that way, say two veteran Philadelphia stage construction pros.
And it’s not just about the financial benefits.
“This industry is terrible environmentally,” said Wilma Theater’s production manager Matthew J. Zumbo, who is on a mission to build a sustainability culture at Wilma and to be an apostle for it in t ..read more

The community group that runs South Street’s popular Triangle Plaza is a step closer to pushing through a multimillion-dollar traffic improvement plan for the area — if it can work out significant differences with residents of an adjoining neighborhood.
The state recently awarded the city a $1.6 million grant to help fund two related street improvement projects proposed by the South of South Neighborhood Association, or SOSNA. The total cost of the work is estimated at $3 million.
The uncontroversial part of the plan would make Triangle Plaza, a technically temporary public space at South and ..read more

Three Philly-area polluters impacted by new EPA restrictions
New EPA rules aim to restrict cancer-causing emissions that create hazardous air pollution. Over 200 facilities across the U.S. are impacted—including a petroleum refinery and two chemical plants in the Philadelphia region.

It seems to be a yearly right of passage for Phillies fans – getting through the month of April without losing our minds.
It is an arduous journey, fraught with infielders falling to the turf as they’re about to field an inning-ending ground ball, a pitcher and catcher miscommunicating on a pitch resulting in a 97 mph fastball smashing the catcher’s hand and causing a passed ball allowing a run to score, an error that allows their ace to give up a back-breaking grand slam, and their power-hitting former MVP compiling the same batting average as their struggling No. 9-hole hitter.
Yup, that ab ..read more

RECAP: Looking back on the week that was Philly restaurateurs make case for improving streeteries process
Restaurant owners, industry advocates, and city officials offered ideas on how the often cumbersome and frustrating process for approving and licensing of streeteries can be made better.
Is Philly’s Parks and Rec budget growing? It’s complicated.
While Mayor Parker’s budget seems flat for Parks and Rec, increased spending in other areas could actually mean more money for parks. Several councilmembers agree on the need to boost Parks & Rec spending and will like ..read more

Did you know that the human brain is made up of 86 billion neurons that are responsible for sending and receiving information to and from the outside world? Yes, you read that correctly, billion, not million. Our brains are crucial to our well-being and dictate how we function on a day-to-day basis. Medicine is constantly discovering new ways to help diagnose and treat a myriad of conditions ranging from common forgetfulness, i.e., “Where did I put my keys?” to advanced stages of dementia.
