City council hopes to forge a stronger, more formal relationship with neighbouring municipalities and has created a sub-committee to get it done. The group, whose membership has not been confirmed, will comprise administrative staff as required and Coun. Ron Wilson, who volunteered. Coun. Vince Thiessen was concerned that it would be a committee dominated by city councillors, and preferred instead that it “should be driven a little bit by administration.” He said with staff, there would be better communication and attendance at day meetings when most councillors would be working Wilson sai ..read more

Justice rejects QVEA appeal The Saskatchewan Department of Justice has rejected an appeal from the Qu’Appelle Valley Environmental Association (QVEA) to review the MNP audit of the Town of Fort Qu’Appelle’s dealings with Abaco and the sale of the old Indian Hospital property. Lynsey Swanson, director of finance, told council recently that although a few groups received grant approval without submitting the required financial statements, administration will need that information first. “I think that’s absolute,” said Coun. Joe Kirwan. “I know council approved the grants and the funds are there, but I think it’s a very slippery slope not to acquire the documentation.” Coun. Andrew Rondeau voted against awarding grants to the latecomer ..read more
