That low, growing growl you hear is a nation of gay bears headed for Atlanta Bear Pride this weekend. Gay Atlanta’s queens of do-good drag brought the sunshine to a cloudy afternoon on Saturday when Heretic hosted the triumphant return of Armorettes Easter Drag Races. As they promised Project Q last week, the first post-pandemic Easter shenanigans held carnival games and daydrinking, a bonnet contest and gay boys at every turn. With BJ Roosters’ own Jimmy and Chance both celebrating birthdays in February, Atlanta’s go-go gay bar had only one choice – a birthday blowout on Feb. 19. Our cameras were there. A big crowd took heed of the invitation. It promised specials and BJ’s signature “boys on the bar,” and our photo gallery below captures happy patrons enjoying the results. With stops at Heretic, Believe Music Hall, Future and Park Tavern, the gay Atlanta event crew Medusa Productions came, saw and conquered. Over the course of the Feb. 18-21 party series,  no fewer than a dozen well known DJs dropped the beats. In the gallery below, our cameras caught the main event at Future on Saturday night. The Greek Gods party featured international DJs Paulo Fragoso (top photo) and Allison Nunes. The Medusa fun didn’t stop until well into Monday morning, and it continues on Feb. 25. How do you bring Atlanta’s gay bears out of hibernation during an Arctic blast? Oooooo Bearracuda. The traveling party crew took over Heretic on Saturday for the Winter Beef Ball. As usual, our cameras were there snapping the beasts in their natural habitat. DJ Matt Consola had the guys ripping off their shirts and flowing onto the dance floor, and we got the pics.
