Such a loss at finding a tub surround for bathroom remodel.

Im very overwhelmed, as one usually is, with figuring out my bathroom remodel. I am working with a bathroom design place, and I am not sure what to do when choosing what to do. The person I am working with is suggesting an acrylic tub for longevity but we ARE on a budget. I like how my tub surround currently is, its just old and cracking. I am guessing its about 25 years old based on paperwork the previous owners had. The old tub surround I have is one piece, which was done during an addition, so now I have to do a 3 piece if I were to replace it. She had been pushing me into some acrylic wal ..read more

My new home basement has drywall finished by builders, with no power outlets

I am looking to finish my basement. My home (built in 2022) already has insulation & drywalls installed throughout the outside perimeters of the basement. But they don't have a single power outlets or HVAC vents. FYI, I am the first owner of this house and these are done by the builders. Should I be taking out the drywall for outlets/ducts? Or were the builders planning on just doing them in the interior/partition walls? submitted by /u/Deep-Manufacturer-36 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

My carpenter suspended sheetrock about 11 inches / 30 cm below plaster ceiling. Problem is we need a lot more sound proofing. Is there a sound proofing spray foam that can be sued against the plaster ceiling? Trying to avoid taking down the suspended sheetrock which is looking great. Thanks for any ideas. submitted by /u/atropear [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Deck Staining -

We have a large deck that needs staining. I know some of this comes down to personal preference, but wanted to get a sense of what you all would recommend. Would you get semi transparent or semi solid? Going with a stain & seal combo. We’ll be putting this on pressure-treated wood (which was built last summer so should be dried out by now). How would you apply it? Roller, sprayer, pads? Mostly wondering what application style and stain style are most “forgiving” for user error. Deck staining isn’t my specialty but hoping I can make this as nice as possible. TIA for any tips, tricks and ..read more

Popcorn ceiling in rental apartment lighting options

I had seen some popcorn ceiling advice prior, but it was for homebuyers. I want to see if anyone knows of any possible ceiling light fixture options for rentals with popcorn ceilings. My living room is dark, even with two standing lights, so I would like to upgrade it a little bit with some type of ceiling lights that are rental-friendly. I am just unsure of how to go about it. Any suggestions/feedback would be great! TIA submitted by /u/glorifiedbunny [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Installing a shed

I'd like to build an area for a shed for my fiance. Looking at 8x 10 shed, and considering options for the base. The yard is overgrown, so I'm thinking about killing the grass where it would lay, leveling it out, and placing the base there. My question is should I lay a concrete slab there or build a wood base and treat it with an exterior protector of some kind before installing the shed? Thoughts on removing the patch of grass in that area as opposed to just killing it and laying the foundation on top? I'm pretty handy and will be doing it myself, probably with his help for the muscle and t ..read more

Are these beams salvageable

I have some beams just past the eaves on my house, they looked a bit uneven so I stripped them. Plan was to fill them smooth with plastic wood. These first one looks like it was repaired before. The next 4 pics are of the center beam and it looks like crap. Should I just lop it off? It’s not structural. https://imgur.com/a/QUgNnjt submitted by /u/imchuy09 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

We just had our oil tank removed but they left the fill pipe in our foundation wall. Both ends are sawed off to be about an inch from the wall. What’s the best way to seal this off? Were they supposed to have completely removed it and patched with cement? submitted by /u/GrumpyMonkey998 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

What wood floor parquet to choose?

I’m trying to decide on what type of wooden flooring to use for my new house. I have underfloor heating, and I am looking for a wooden flooring with a natural feel and look. However, the durability of the flooring is very important for me. Where I live now, I have installed Karelia Oak Story parquet. It has been expensive, and yet it scratched and dents extremely easy. Even if I drop a coin from pocket level it will leave a dip dent in the wood. We’ve become paranoid about protecting the flooring which can be extremely annoying. I’ve been thinking about Boen, but I read some bad reviews about ..read more
