Daredevil and The Kingpin have quite a history.  In fact, it's fair to say that Kingpin is DDs arch-enemy.  And the story that began in Frank Miller & David Mazzucchelli's 'Born Again' storyline from 1986 looks like it may have come to an end in 'Devil's Reign.'  This 7-part event, (8 if you count Devil's Reign: Omega, which is included in the graphic novel), by writer Chip Zdarsky and artist Marco Checchetto, begins with Mayor Wilson Fisk (The Kingpin) feeling like he's missing something. He's trying to remember something that he knows he used to know, and he believes that ..read more

Explore the birth of the Marvel Universe in "Marvels!"

With the popularity of the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe), I'm often asked where does a fan of the movies start reading Marvel comics? My go to answer for the last decade has been Civil War by Mark Millar and Steve McKniven. Why? It's the inspiration for the film, Captain America: Civil War, so there's name recognition. And the premise is easily recognizable from the film. But those two points aside, it's a new story featuring virtually every Marvel hero, including several that didn't appear in the film for licensing reasons (The Fantastic Four, The X-Men, The Punisher). From there ..read more

Another Toy Fair has come and gone. And while I didn’t attend, I’m happy to play arm-chair observer and write about the reveals, what I’m excited about and what was missing. NECA NECA always seems to have something new up their sleeve that will make collectors happy. The long-time license holder for Aliens, Predator, Godzilla, and most horror franchises presented a lot of the usual suspects. But there were several surprises that I’m looking forward to: Back to the Future Ultimate and Animated Figures Marty McFly Ultimate 7 Inch Figure Marty McFly (Tales from Space) Ultimate 7 Inch Figure Ani ..read more

I grew up in metro-Detroit in the 1980's, which meant that I was a Detroit Lions fan. But I wasn't what you would call a football fan. That changed eight years ago when my oldest son started playing football at age 10. As I watched him play over the years, I learned to love the game. Now I find myself cheering on my family's team (Notre Dame) every Saturday. And, since I now live in Ohio, rooting for the Bengals and even the Browns...along with the Lions. And the best part? My youngest son started playing football this year at age nine :) One thing that I've learned while watching football is ..read more

Deadpool 2 is set to dethrone Avengers: Infinity War at the box office this weekend. And many of you moviegoers may want to check out the 'Merc with a Mouth's humble comic book origins. That's why I've put together this quick list of the Top 3 Deadpool Comics to Start With. This was a very solid week for new comics books. There weren't a ton of new releases, but the ones that were released are top notch. Here are this week's best comics! X-Men Red #1 Written by Tom Taylor Art by Mahmud Asrar If you've been following recent events in Marvel Comics, specifically Phoenix Resurrection or Jean Grey, the original Jean Grey is back and she has a lot of lost time to make up for. She's taken it upon herself to establish a mutant nation. Not necessarily with a physical location, but with the rights and freedom's that other "countries" have. Yesterday, DC Comics announced the projects that Brian Michael Bendis would be working on since leaving Marvel. And some of the responses on Social Media prove that some people just like to complain. I've been reading comics for over 30 years, and let me tell you, I am stoked to read Bendis' Superman stories.  The man has had a very impressive run over at Marvel: Breathing new life into characters like Luke Cage and Daredevil; Creating characters like Jessica Jones, Miles Morales and Riri Williams; and writing some of Marvel's biggest event books like "House of M" and "Avengers: Dis ..read more
