The Los Angeles County Commission on Human Relations has released “Redefining Policing with Our Community,” an extensive report on policing and human relations in LA County with 34 recommendations for change. It seeks to “build a new normal that prioritizes human dignity and repairs the damage done by discriminatory policies and practices.” The Policing and Human Relations project was launched in 2015 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1965 Watts Rebellion. White supremacist propaganda heavily targeted the Inland Empire and Southern California as a whole in 2019, according to an annual report released by the Anti-Defamation League. The University of Connecticut violated two students’ free-speech rights by attempting to expel them from college housing for allegedly using a racial slur, a new lawsuit says, raising the question of whether a university has the authority to punish offensive speech on its campus. The U.S. southern border has become synonymous with crisis, and that crisis synonymous with the countries of Central America, particularly El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala.
