What I’ve Read Lately (“Heavy” Books)
Emily A. Clark - Kitchen Renovation

I didn’t necessarily mean to start my reading year on such a heavy note, but it seems like almost every book I picked up–both memoirs and fiction–centered around some pretty serious subject matter. Individually, I really liked most of these books. I would probably just throw some lighter reads in mix if I were to do it again. . . JavaScript is currently disabled in this browser. Julia’s (true) story is about growing up in a ..read more

Good Things (January 2021)

The number one spot on my “Good Things” list goes to the recent social media and blog break I took toward the end of the year. Online had become a not-so-fun place to be and as I ease back into Instagram, in particular, I’m reminding myself that if it’s not making my days happier, it’s okay to take breaks as needed. I used the time away to tinker with my own house without documenting it, to rearrange some furniture just for the fun of change, to study pictures of rooms that I love (like this one by Gordon Dunning), and to remember why I like doing this in the first place. Here are a few ..read more

Are Dark Brown Walls Making a Comeback?
Emily A. Clark - Kitchen Renovation

Are dark brown walls making a comeback? Or maybe it’s just wishful thinking on my part since I recently painted this room a rich shade called Middlebury Brown (Benjamin Moore). Or, maybe there’s been so much white and gray in interior trends over the last decade that we’re starting to crave something entirely different. I’ve been toying with the idea of using dark brown in our house for over a year. To me, if feels very cozy and if done right, sophisticated (although that’s a laughable word for the state of our playroom-turned-den most days. . .).  It seems like so many of my favori ..read more

Emily A. Clark - Kitchen Renovation

It’s the day to do some kind of recap post–right? Although 2020 feels like a wash in many ways, I was thinking about the things I actually did accomplish in all of my time at home and I made some small changes that made a big difference (to me). Big improvements don’t always mean knocking down a wall or even spending a large amount of money. A few thoughtful changes can improve the way you feel about your home. I’ve shared some of these quickly on Instagram but here are a few more thoughts on my 5 favorite decor changes of 2020. One. This spot has been ever evolving but late la ..read more
