It sounds illogical but the natural ingredient route is not always the best for the environment. Researchers are concerned that, by focusing solely on consuming foods that claim to have no additives or artificial ingredients, people will oversee the impact they are having on the environment. The purported solution by food scientist is synergy between science, sustainability and clean label trends. Take the vanilla bean for example. Vanilla beans take up to 9 months to grow and are easily damaged by the environment. The highest producer of vanilla in the world is Madagascar but a cyclone that h ..read more

The overwhelming demand for snacks and confections that contain natural ingredients is sparking some concern with food scientists. Western consumers are generally skeptical of industrial food processing and genetically modified organisms. These consumers believe GMOs to be bad for their health, that they may be poisonous and that they are bad for the environment despite the overwhelming amount of scientific evidence that shows that GMOs are safe to eat and that they may actually be better for the environment than standard farming practices. The main concern of only consuming natural ingredient ..read more

High demand for certain ingredients, such as vanilla bean, is tough to satisfy. This is due to the low availability as vanilla is particularly susceptible to environmental disasters and takes up to 9 months ..read more

If you don’t already know someone, you’ll undoubtedly come across someone who is allergic to gluten. People with Ciliac’s Disease, for example, must eliminate all traces of gluten from their diet or risk damage to their small intestine. It is estimated that this condition affects 1 in 100 people worldwide.
