Is it possible to be a total dumpster fire at this job? I’m an aspiring accountant and sometimes I question if this job could be too stressful or difficult. Am I good enough? Lol experience and time will tell. BUT if I am complete cheeks at my first assignment, how would this usually play out? submitted by /u/RAMIREZ32 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hi all, am starting the process to become a CMA and wanted to ask for advice on which test prep people went with. I’m thinking of either Gleim or Becker but would love to get some other opinions if possible. submitted by /u/Goalie2315 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I am a sub teacher. I HATE it. I’m trying to make the best of it but I’m just counting down the days until I’m free. I want out of education, and I am signing up for courses in something different, but now I’m worried. I read on here that accounting jobs are hard to come by, and I tried my skills at computers but didn’t do well. I don’t have it in me to continue teaching. I actually had my own class for a bit, but that is not for me either. I need something more stable, and I don’t want to work with kids anymore. High school was ok, but I’d only work in SPED. Not sure where to go from here. T ..read more

I’m a finance tech for my non-profit company and I have a lot of roles. Payables, receivables, payroll, audit prep, deposits, etc. It’s pretty busy. I like the job and the people I work with but I keep missing little things. Examples include: -Not updating memos in copied QBO expenses -I missed an easy step today while calculating a pay raise for an employee. All I had to do was change two cells but I missed it before I sent it to my boss for review -Not putting proper back-up for my entries. It’s a simple print to PDF, rename and upload but I keep missing it. How do you all keep with the lit ..read more

Today, I was fired from a Big 4 accounting firm as a year 1 audit associate. I was told I was fired for not meeting performance expectations and inefficiencies in general. And due to these inefficiencies they were unable to find staffing for me over the next few months, so they decided to let me go. I asked for concrete examples of where I had inefficiencies on my engagements and they told me there are reviews I am unable to see. That it’s been a problem across all of my engagements. I have only received positive reviews from seniors and managers. I ask many questions, so I don’t get stuck on ..read more

Im getting to a point where i feel very helpless regarding my job search and i need to assess my options going forward. A little bit on my background: i did 2 years of public accounting at a top 10 firm. 6 months of non profit audit and 1.5 years of Tax. Both of these times i got PIP plans due to neglectful work. The audit team was not a good fit for me and that PIP plan i failed and transferred over to the tax team. I had a really good team all together, but towards the end of my stint in public i was placed on another PIP and i ended up beating that one but i decided to go to industry after ..read more

I work for a small firm as an employee, am not a partner. I am the primary tax preparer and have relationships with most of our clients. I however know I am being underpaid for my qualifications. I feel like a terrible person for looking to leave due to how important my role is with the company. I am having anxiety just thinking about telling my boss of when I leave. Though I know for a fact that he cannot afford to pay me a for a substantial raise. We are still very busy working on extensions and I feel like I am going to be abandoning them. Can anyone please offer me advice? I am only 3 yea ..read more
