The U.S. recognizes March as Women’s History Month. The movement to celebrate women’s achievements began in 1981, and thanks to annual presidential proclamations, March has been Women’s History Month since 1994. This is a time set aside to lift up the many contributions of women in various fields throughout American history. Forestry remains a male-dominated field. According to data from the 2020 US Census, women make up just 15.3% of forest and conservation workers. But the CSFS employs talented, knowledgeable and passionate women across Colorado. Water is the lifeblood of the West. When Coloradans turn on their taps, the water has a surprising origin story – one that starts high in the mountains, filtered through forests. In celebrating UN World Water Day, let’s explore the connection between water and forests here ..read more

Pile burning at Colorado State Forest. This includes limbs, tops and cull (or unusable) sections of trees. Trained Colorado State Forest Service personnel then burn these piles as an economical and effective method of disposing of excess wildland fire fuels. Each winter CSFS staff in the Northwest Area eagerly await the right conditions to burn these slash piles. In 2024, CSFS staff have been burning piles on several State Trust L ..read more

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The annual forest health report, released today by the Colorado State Forest Service, details the current state of the health and condition of Colorado’s forests. Colorado is on the right path to face these challenges, and the CSFS works to ensure the state is wildfire and recovery ready.  ..read more
