Hello everyone. As the title says, I just graduated with an AA in General Studies with a hard emphasis on Land Resources. Fortunately, while still in school I managed to land a Contractor Utility Forester position with a decent company. Now, with that being said. I'm mostly looking for advice. While I'm in a forestry related field, I know that an Associates of Art degree is not gonna help me go above and beyond. Unless I am overthinking it? And talking with my boss, he wants me to try and apply for the ISA Certification as soon as possible because he thinks I have enough tree experience and c ..read more

I have an associate's in an unrelated field now. I'm at a great company, have good coworkers, and am making good money for my field. But.. I am BORED!! I'm sick of sitting at a desk, and cannot imagine doing this for another 10-20+ years. (I'm 32) I want to go back to school, engineering would be the next logical step for my field, but i have no interest in that. I love the outdoors, and i think it would be amazing to contribute to the stewardship of the planet. Would forestry be a good option in 2024? What kind of salaries could be expected? I am making 65k now, and it would be nice to be ab ..read more

Hello all What are the EXP and ln parts of this equation? For some reason the reading I had to do beforehand doesn’t explain what they are. The rest will be simple once I understand those two functions. Thanks submitted by /u/Grand_False [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I picked up this book from a free table in the forestry department of my school. I’m taking forest measurements this fall and wanted to know if this is still worth reading. It’s dated to 2002. Any input on the usefulness of this book is greatly appreciated. Thank you! submitted by /u/prunedgoolaush [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Tool for clearing logging slash

I’m in the process of buying ~80 acres of recently harvested forest from a logging company. As a result of the logging in late 2022, the property is heavily filled with slash/branches/debris from a selective harvest that took a nearly all the trees over a certain diameter. I am looking to get some kind of wood chipper/tool to deal with the slash to clean up/make some trails and also to clear out a few acres for a housing site/recreation area. I was initially thinking of an old/used commercial wood chipper, but the property is almost 3000 feet deep, up a gradual hill, and I’m concerned I won’t ..read more

ISO Brush Cutter

Looking to purchase a brush cutter for managing invasives (rose bush thorns, honeysuckle, etc) and creating trails across ~60 acres. I’m wanting something that will last many years with only routine maintenance. I’ve been looking at Stihl 560 and Husqvarna 555 models. Might be a little overkill but rather have the power for some of the more mature overgrown areas. Let me know what you’re rocking with or recommendations.
