I used to be very active in karate 15-20 years ago. My favorite was the musical tournament weapon forms, and I used a pair of speed chucks. I'm pretty sure they were either g force or XMA. I have no idea of the brand, because I bought them through the dojo. I also had a pair of solid wood chucks with a short 3 link chain that sensei gave me as a gift. Those were a lot of fun to train with I'm looking for a reputable place to buy a new set, and I don't want to wait 4-6 weeks for them to arrive. I'm looking at the AWMA website (can't believe they're still in business, but good for them!) But th ..read more

Title: Seeking Advice: Incident with Senior Instructor during Karate Class Hey everyone, I need some guidance on a situation that occurred during one of my recent karate classes. I'm a 2nd-degree black belt, and during our open dojo class, I approached a red belt student and casually asked if they had sparring gear. When they indicated they did, I mentioned that we would spar during the last five minutes of class. However, one of the 5th-degree black belts misinterpreted my intention and responded by eagerly saying, "Spar me! Spar me!" Despite my initial announcement, he aggressively engaged ..read more

Osu! I’m a 9th kyu and I practice Shotokan (25 y/o F). I’m looking to improve the strength of my sidekicks and back kicks. The range of my flexibility is pretty good but I want to be able to stick my kicks when performing kata and have more strength when practicing pad work. Any recomendations? I’m looking for strength and felxibility exercises I can practice inbetween my days at the dojo. Thank you! submitted by /u/Tight_Competition171 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I've been training kyokushin karate for two months now, and after pad sessions I usually have a headache, is it possible for the transferred force from a pad to jostle my brain and can I prevent it somehow? Thanks in advance submitted by /u/Sad_Fennel7027 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hello everyone! ? I am in my last stretch of preparation for my 2nd Dan grading. First, it is to say that my Dojo, Senseis, and the people around me support me a lot and the preparation is very thorough. So this is (fortunately) not the problem. (Maybe for further information: I do Shotokan style, soon to be 24yrs old :) ) BUT that's only my preparation experience, and I really want to hear yours! Tips, tricks and advice you learned, did, received for your belt gradings that helped you. Let it be mental preparation (before or on the day), maybe even something you ate that helped you with ener ..read more

Hello everyone! I (M, 25) started to practice shotokan karate again after a long break. Our training sessions are on every tuesday and thursday. While I do enjoy the training, I also would like to do some workout in between the days (monday, wednesday & friday). I work at an office and the lack of movement bumbs me from time to time. Could anyone recommend a or multiple workouts I could do during my off days? I'm a thin person and my main goal is to be healthy and perhaps get a bit muscly without gaining much mass (but that's just a bonus). I currently lift dumbbells at home and do a full ..read more
