No idea what's going on with rowing drag factor.

Hi, For info I'm 27, female, 140lb and 5'8". I'm fairly new to rowing. I only just started January 2024 and have a brand new concept 2 machine at home. When I started rowing, I put the damper on 4 as this corresponding to a drag factor of around 130 - 140 when I would do a 5k row - which I am happy with as I read that that is the rough range you should aim for. However I noticed a couple of weeks ago that my drag factor kept increasing and it did feel like there was more resistance when I pulled. I have put the damper setting down to 1 now but my drag factor for my last row (yesterday) was 22 ..read more

Foot stretcher

Hi all, I am an engineering student at Deakin University and for one of my units I am trying to make some improvements on a foot stretcher. I was hoping to get some insight from rowers on what they Find does and doesn’t work for them in a foot stretcher, what they find to be frustrating as well as any ideas you might have had to make an improvement. I am interested in hearing from people of all abilities, beginners, high level rowers and even those involved in clubs or schools and what they look for when purchasing. 6:48 2k but a 2:20 UT2... Is something wrong?

I'm training to do a 2k in about a month and am currently running 4 UT2 sessions and 2 higher-intensity sessions a week. I'm on a collegiate club team but due to personal reasons am taking a month off of water practice and getting back on the water for ACRAs. I want to peak the week leading into it so I'm training to do a 2k the weekend prior. I just did a 3x30' this morning at UT2 (avg 148 HR) and only went 2:20. This was only the second UT2 session I've done running this plan but I'm just a little nervous that I'm wasting my time with all this UT2. Can anyone confidently assure me that I am ..read more

Rowing a single at SIRA this weekend and I’m honestly fucking terrified

I’ve been rowing for ~6 years now but have never been particularly good. Always in the B boat (or C if that’s an option) and never broke 7:30. I have never raced a single. I only even practice singles during the summer and even then it’s pretty leisurely. My coach had me do a trial run yesterday and it was so bad. I couldn’t get above a 24 rate, I developed a new blister on every finger of my left hand and a quarter sized one on my right, and I was dying by 1k. I understand that the SIRA 1X lineup this year is pretty fast so I know I’m just gonna get obliterated thereby embarrassing myself an ..read more

What are good options to aid cardio gain and endurance?

Hi as title says would like some help please. A big problem for me is stamina, endurance and cardio so I find it hard to keep up with open men’s squad. The only ergs available are at the club but there are not enough for everyone. I row 2/3 times a week in a 8 roughly 11km. I cycle to gym 3x which is about 3km with a few hills. I want to start running but not sure if it’s better to run a steady pace for distance or intervals so sprint/jog. I have hyper mobility so dosnt help with endurance because I get fatigue more easily. How do you guys push through fatigue both mentally and physically? An ..read more

Looking for some help and input here - I'm a 61 yr old borderline fit man - 6'4", maybe 280 lbs. I've walked four miles daily for the past five years. On Jan 1 of this year, I added rowing workouts to my regimen, using a decent rowing machine. I've rowed at least five days a week since then, at increasing resistance each week. I started at 50 strokes at 25 spm, increasing the stroke count each day. I researched the proper rowing technique, and I follow it. After 14 weeks, it takes me about eight minutes to do 225 strokes. I feel good about my progress, and the work is easier than it was in Ja ..read more

I've been rowing recreationally for about a year now but I've recently been trying to improve my technique. I've been really struggling to open my back later, does anyone have any drills I could do to practice it? I've been told I do it better when OTW but I don't have any way to verify that. here's a clip of me on the erg, any other tips are appreciated too https://imgur.com/a/DO9v4XV submitted by /u/TSM919 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
