Tomorrow Colitis Ninja turns 9-years-old. A lot has happened since I first drew that little Ninja… I’ve traveled and blogged. I’ve spoken out for patients and created a lot of content. I had a baby and made so many new friends. I never expected for my blog to be where it is today.  For 9 years I’ve been involved in the IBD community and done what I can to help patients understand their diseases better. Many of you who have been reading my blog know that I’ve been working on a Graphic Novel (and have been for the past 7... The post 9 Years first appeared on Colitis Ninja ..read more

I’m Hanging Up The Ninja Mask: Here’s Why

“Villainy wears many masks; none so dangerous as the mask of virtue.” –Washington Irving “Doesn’t matter what the press says. Doesn’t matter what the politicians or the mobs say. Doesn’t matter if the whole country decides something wrong is right. This nation was founded on one principle above all else: the requirement that we stand up for what we believe no matter the odds or the consequences. When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole world–‘No,... The Slippery Slope of Medical Coercion

“One who uses coercion is guilty of deliberate violence. Coercion is inhuman.” –Mahatma Gandhi “Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. (…) those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.” –CS Lewis Diligence in Healthcare The whole world has been obsessed with medicine and healthcare for two years. How could we not be with an unpredictable virus floating around out there? People with chronic illnesses such as ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn’s Disea ..read more

Acute Pouchitis: What J-Pouchers Should Know
Colitis Ninja
by ColitisNinja
2y ago
Pouchitis, you’ve heard about it. But what is it exactly? I have been wanting to write a post about pouchitis for quite some time now. I wrote a general overview of complications that can arise after ileal-pouch anal anastomosis (you can read about that here). While many patients (up to 40%) will develop pouchitis within the first year after surgery, I lived with my j-pouch for 7 years almost to the day before I gained first-hand experience. I knew the symptoms, but as it first presented itself with symptoms similar to a normal, irritated j-pouch, it kind of snuck up... The post Acute Pouchiti ..read more

From The Bowels of the Book (Pun Intended)
Colitis Ninja

Guts of Fury Begins I’ve been talking about Guts of Fury publicly since 2016… but in truth, the initial idea came around September of 2015. Since the public announcement, the projected launch date was October of 2017. Six months later, I got pregnant and my whole life and advocacy efforts were turned upside down. The novel has produced a lot of joy and frustration over the past five years. But I’ve never given up. It’s been a long time since I’ve given any updates, so I thought it would probably be good to let you guys know what’s going on.... The post From The Bowels of the Book (Pun Intended ..read more

MikesRX, My New Favorite Cream! – A Review
Colitis Ninja
by ColitisNinja

Reviewing MikesRX One of the biggest complaints for anyone living with inflammatory bowel disease or a j-pouch is the dreaded perianal dermatitis. Perianal dermatitis is also known as moisture associated skin damage (or MASD). Most patients living with Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis affectionately call this condition “butt burn.” I’ve dealt with this condition many times myself… mostly after getting a j-pouch. While it isn’t pleasant having an itchy, burning bottom, it is much more manageable than having a bleeding, ulcerating colon. In fact, I would say it’s a million times better. Thi ..read more

J-Pouch Success – Jordan’s Story
Colitis Ninja

J-Pouch Takedown Anniversary Next month is my 5 year takedown anniversary for my j-pouch. I have stated many times that the j-pouch has a 94-96% success rate. But you don’t hear many success stories on the internet because most of them are out there living their lives and not boasting about it on the internet. Because you don’t hear a majority of the success stories out there, I feel compelled to keep sharing my own story of life with a j-pouch.  Success & Failure Stories I have given a lot of thought to how I would address this year’s takedown...
