I remember freshman year of college, after a particularly rough week I was crying to my freshman year roommate, Madeline, saying how I wasn’t sure if I made the right choice moving from Deerfield to a city out of state. I was so stressed and homesick and uncomfortable. I remember so well, because it’s stuck with me ever since, her responding with “you didn’t leave Deerfield, Wisconsin to come to the Twin Cities to be comfortable.” Moving to the Twin Cities ended up being one of the best decisions I ever made for myself. I love the Cities. I love the people. I love the U. I wouldn’t have it any ..read more

When I first arrived to Spain in January and everyone began planning out their travels for the semester, everyone just kept saying how as soon as April hits, the rest of the semester will fly by. Well, it’s April. April Fool’s Day really does feel like a joke. April 1st. April. And now I’m two weeks into the month and in two more I’ll be done with the program. In less than a month I’ll be back in the states. I don’t want to let this post be another sappy one so, besides the craziness of this realization, I also have plenty of crazy stories from the past few months so I’ll be focusing this blog ..read more

I had the absolute best weekend trip to Copenhagen! I got to stay with Kyra at the Copenhagen Business School and have her show me around her European home; I also got to see my other favorite international student in Copenhagen, Sloan! I got into Copenhagen around 12:15pm on Friday and was only there for 2 days. However, we got the most beautiful weather – we had blue skies and sun from Friday until Sunday and between 55-65 degrees almost all day long. Because it was so gorgeous, we spent almost the entire time outside! I was sick the entire time I was there, but it didn’t hold us back and I ..read more

It’s crazy to think that there are only three more weeks left this program! (Including one week of vacation for Semana Santa and the last weekend is finals) To begin the month of April with a bang, a large group (20 to be exact) of students from the fundacion went to Mallorca- an island off the coast of Spain, 1 of 3 Balearic Islands, and we rented a big beach house with a pool. It was a really fun weekend full of sand and sun. The majority of people arrived Thursday morning to Mallorca while another 8 of us took a 9pm flight because we had class all day. The beach house was on the sout ..read more

Full disclosure: this isn’t something I’ve been doing a good job with. However, I’ve been thinking about it a lot and think that it’s worth some reflection. Clearly studying abroad is so much fun – we’re meeting all these new friends, seeing all these beautiful new places, eating great food, having fun nights out, all the fun. However, just like at school or home or any other time and place, there are inevitably times of struggle. This includes homesickness, getting sick, just feeling down, etc. and I think that it’s particularly hard navigating where and how to get help when you need it as a ..read more

So first of all, I am now a week late with this post but since the beginning of the semester I have been wanting so badly to go to Tenerife in the Canary Islands and last weekend it finally became a reality for me. I put it off for far too long while I waited for others to make up their minds about it, but I finally decided to bite the bullet and just go. Luckily for me, a friend from high school, Moriah, who is studying in another part of Spain for the semester agreed to meet me there, so we bought our tickets and it was final.   My flight left Madrid at 6:45am on Friday morning so I had to g ..read more

Two weeks ago, I had my first week-long break with my study abroad program. For this break, I travelled to Vienna, Austria and Budapest, Hungry with two of my roommates from Villanova and then I met my parents in Toulouse, France for the second weekend. Here is just a short summary of my break (and of course lots of pictures)! My break started out a little unexpected as on my train to Marseille to catch my flight to Vienna, I realized I had forgotten my passport in my house in Montpellier. The train had no stops between Montpellier and Marseille so I spent an hour and a half frantically google ..read more

These past few weeks after my spring break have been transitioning back into work and classes while being able to spend more time with my host family and exploring southern France. Exactly 7 weeks from today I will be on a plane back home to the States. As I am past the mid-semester point of my time in France (not sure how that happened), I figured I would reflect a little on some of the things that I want to take back to the states when I come home. Reducing, Reusing, and Recycling: France in general puts a lot of emphasis on the environment with good public transportation, windmills in the c ..read more
