Seasons Greetings! I am grateful to be your pastor. One of my favorite moments is simply sitting in my new office, sipping coffee, crafting meaningful messages (or attempting to!) However, one day, while enjoying my little haven, I received an unexpected knock on the door. It was a dear friend from Canyon Springs. I wondered why he had come. Did he have a profound spiritual question? Was he struggling with his family relationships? Was he torn between which quarterback to start for his fantasy football league? As it turned out, it was none of those. In the next 15 minutes, he shared with me a ..read more

It’s here! After 25+ years of desiring a permanent location, we finally have one! After no less than a half-dozen serious attempts at getting into our own space, we’re blessed to have a new place called Home! No more “setup/takedown” church every week in a school, park, or wherever God took us over the last two and a half decades. With any new home, there are many new things and questions. New Location / Address Who is FLC (Family Life Church)? Parking (Attendees & Staff/Volunteers) Where to Go Once Inside After Service Remember two important things: we are JUST moving in, like a few day ..read more

A Fond Farewell

A Fond Farewell At Canyon Springs Our church has been in a series called “Get out of the boat,” detailing the faith Peter took when he stepped out of the boat to walk on water toward Jesus. From the beginning, this church has given my family great opportunities to step out of the boat. I will never forget the steps we took when we started the church. Our first step was to sell our home. It had done nothing but go down in value for 5 years, so we had to make a short sale to get out of it. Then we moved down here just as house prices had spiked upward. We couldn’t find a place to stay, so we put ..read more

Merry Christmas! 2020 Year End

Generally, when posts and memes and tee-shirts reference 2020, they 1) point to how hard this year has been and 2) include one or more swear words to make the point. I have had more than a few moments when I have felt similar feelings about the world we live in now. Pandemic, racial tension, political unrest. I can understand if you feel like you can’t wait for this year to end. No one could foresee this. There is one fact that you and I should have been able to foresee. You can’t stop Jesus! Never has this verse been more accurate, “A man’s heart plans his way, But the LORD directs his steps ..read more

World Day Against Trafficking in Persons Did you know? • Every 30 seconds, someone becomes a slave. • The average price of a slave is less than the cost of a new cell phone. • The average age of a modern-day slave is 12 years old. • Most victims are trafficked within their countries’ borders. • With the COVID-19 outbreak, human trafficking victims have even less chance of escape and finding help. July 30th is the United Nations World Day Against Human Trafficking: Read below on why the Fight for Freedom is still on and to learn how you can aid in the fight to abolish slavery so that Freedom ca ..read more

Now Mary stood outside the tomb crying. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb… John 20:11 I imagine she hadn’t slept. Her pain too intense, her loss too deep. Did she toss on her mat, did she sit outside of her home curled up and crying, did she wander aimlessly in the dark? For aimless, she must have felt. Jesus, the one who had rescued her from evil spirits, who had restored her and who she had found purpose in serving, Jesus was dead. He was crucified on a cross, placed in a tomb. He was gone. She had been there. She was present at the trial; she stood with his mother at the cros ..read more

57 Now when evening had come, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who himself had also become a disciple of Jesus. 58 This man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be given to him. 59 When Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, 60 and laid it in his new tomb which he had hewn out of the rock; and he rolled a large stone against the door of the tomb, and departed. 61 And Mary Magdalene was there, and the other Mary, sitting opposite the tomb. Jesus Dies on the Cross – Station 5

Christ is Crucified. Our Redemption is Accomplished. Jesus is raised up on the cross. He is surrounded by a distressing and frantic scene. People pass by and yell horrible remarks at him, or they are entirely indifferent. The chief priests are sarcastic and scathing towards him. There is no anger and contempt of Jesus’ eyes – only compassion. Our hope in sharing this week’s devotion ~ Jesus Dies on the Cross ~ is for us to spend time in prayer, reflecting the reasons why Jesus came to die on the cross. Join us as we walk through a few. He Came to Glorify His Father There is tremendous truth p ..read more
