A Transformative Journey Through the Bible

Alright, I have a confession… I’ve been a Christ follower pretty much my whole life, but to be honest – regularly being in the Word? That’s been a bit of a challenge for me. It’s not that I didn’t want to; life just had a knack for getting in the way. But after the year that was 2020, something felt different.  For two years I had watched my daughter get up and read her Bible faithfully everyday, and began feeling extremely convicted that she was modeling this to me, and not the other way around. She definitely inspired me and I was more determined than ever that this was going to be the ..read more

Finding Joy in the New Year

Happy New Year!  It’s hard to believe another year has passed. The year 2023 seemed to go by in a blink, and here we are once again, welcoming a new year. As I prepared for 2024, one of the things I did was pray about my new word. I wrote about my experience choosing a word in 2023  and I’m excited to tell you what I’ve chosen for this year. Drumroll please……. My word for 2024 is:  JOY! I first started thinking about JOY several weeks ago when we drove up to Massachusetts to attend the Boston Pops Symphony as a family. Looking back, one of my favorite family vacations was our ve ..read more

Small Groups are kicking off at PCC! We think everyone – whether you’ve been at PCC for one day or 20 years – can benefit from the experience of community that happens in small groups. We were never meant to do life alone, and in fact, science confirms that consistent, meaningful connection with others has a powerful impact on our well-being. If you’re not sure about signing up, check out this interview with one of our staff members, Madison Lloyd, about her experience.  How did you get started with a small group? What made you decide to join one? I decided to say yes to being in a smal ..read more

Bending But Not Breaking
Passion Community Church

A willow tree can withstand strong storms and wind; often bending, but not breaking. They grow and flourish even in unfavorable conditions. My journey started about five years ago. I was feeling stuck and unfulfilled, but I could not put my finger on why. There were continuous tugs deep in my soul, and a small faint voice that kept saying “You were made to do more.” I knew I wanted to help others, but that was all I had figured out. I wanted to better understand who I was as a person and what it was that I stood for. I wanted to find my purpose. Through a process of self reflection, I started ..read more

Finding God in the Waiting

When I was in third grade, we had a butterfly net in our classroom as part of our science class. For several weeks, we raised four caterpillars and kept track of their growth as they transformed into cocoons and then butterflies. We all waited eagerly to see our butterflies, and as third graders, it felt like forever before we would finally get to see the cocoons hatch open and the butterflies spread their wings for the first time.  One day, my teacher walked in on one of the boys from my class standing next to the open butterfly net and holding one of the cocoons in his hands. He didn’t ..read more

It’s almost summer! Nobody is more aware of that fact than all the kids who are counting down the days until the last day of school. For them, summer means replacing school and studying with swimming and sunscreen. It means replacing the schedule with spontaneity. It means finally having some freedom!  As parents, we want our kids to enjoy every minute of their summer vacation while also retaining at least some of the knowledge they’ve acquired during the school year. Maybe you’ll encourage your kids to read every day or practice their multiplication facts or write to a penpal. Here at P ..read more

About a year ago, I woke up one day and realized my house was a mess. I had spent the “Covid years” working 65 hours a week in the office, and when my workload started decreasing, I looked around and found that my house was full of junk, clutter, and mess – inside and out.  I had been married to a “collector” (hoarder) for about 20 years, and when we separated, I seized the opportunity for a little dump therapy. Every weekend for several months, I worked at cleaning out my house, room by room. I became a regular at the Powhatan Convenience Center, making several trips every Saturday and ..read more

Discipline Saved My Life

“Chelsey Krohn – please report to the principal’s office.” Every single eye in Mrs. Griffie’s second grade class turned to look at me. My heart started pounding. A million questions flooded my head:  Me? What did I do? Did I break the rules? Was I mean to someone? What’s going to happen? Will they call my mom? Send my dad to get me? Am I going to get…..the paddle?!  If you’re around my age or older, you probably remember hearing about – or being on the receiving end of – “the paddle.” Mrs. Ehly, the principal at Hamilton Elementary School and owner of the paddle, was lean and tall ..read more
