I painted this guy as a daily study a few  years ago, and just now got him photographed and to this page. We were in the south of Spain, and thinking it would be a good time to take a ferry across the Mediterranean to Tangier. Why not, right?? We were told it was incredibly difficult to get passports prepared for spending the day in Morocco, and best to let a tour agent handle it.  Supposedly rules & regulations change on a daily basis  :) The tour agent also lined up the lunchtime music. What a day!     ..read more

I am certain I have mentioned, Okoboji is a favorite place to paint, but it's also a long 4 hours from home. When I am there, there are no weather excuses for not painting. This morning was frosty, and the wind was scheduled to start hammering us again. I found a place to hide from the wind, in the sun. It was on the steps, but, hey, shorten an easel leg, it worked. Sawmill Bridge which separates Upper Gar Lake and Lake Minnewashta.     For all the people that say no lake is that blue, well, yup, it is ..read more

In the past, my daily study practice of the human face - well, in two's and three's, they go visit the world from whence they came. Currently 12 of them are showing at SNW Gallery in Manhattan, Kansas, and that was the biggest showing of them to date. Until now. But! Brace yourself! 165, yes, onehundredsixtyfive!!! of them will soon be at the Clear Lakes Art Center, in Clear Lake Iowa. We are calling it    One Day At A Time, The Faces I've Seen.   A daily study practice based on the world's most looked at entity, the human face. It might be grand. I am hoping for a sea of faces ..read more

Yes, I am one day behind in sharing the daily study face. (But, wow, you should see my stack of paintings that have yet to meet the good camera, that's really impressive.) One of these days I will be caught up. And it'd probably happen SOONER if I quit wondering about crazy things like this: What happens if I paint it in gouache? Oh boy.  I had watched one of the art school live videos about turning the ref image upside down and painting it that way.  I had done the oil study in the afternoon, and then had a few spare minutes last night, so just added another panel. And went at it u ..read more
