Just used my Valentine/ anniversary gift for the first time to cast a .999 Elder Futhark fehu. Tried casting stones in place but they scattered all over the casting. A bit of a bummer but I'm still kinda proud of it for being so new to casting.

Hare are some of the worst one. I know the sanding/polishing is not perfect too, bcs there’s just some deeper holes that need soldering. This have not been soldered yet. I use brass brushes to clean off castings before filing off sprues. then i sand it with 400,600,800 sanding paper. Sometimes i use radial bristle brush by 3m for the small crevices. Then i continue to pre-polish and then silbo silver polish with some cloth. Then i wash in the ultrasonic with a little bit dish soap. After that i keep it in a clear sealed plasticz Is it possible that the brass brush is causing this yellown ..read more

Hello guys, I'm wondering if any of you have ever tried putting flask in this kind of electric oven for burnout? Of course I would leave the flask longer to drain the wax, about 3.5 hours, because it is impossible to drain the remaining wax after i put flask in it with this method because it would be upside down. I would also try to reduce the time of burnout cycle from the current 12h I used to have to 5h. This time i will cast silver. Do you guys think it is a legit idea??

Hello there!
I am a total beginer and i would like to try to sand cast my first ring, but i cant't seem to find any a store in Europe to purchase the required supplies.
I would need a MAPP gass torch + canister, a crucible and delft clay. I can make my own mould and borax is not a problem. There are a lot of crucibles on sites like Amazon or Wish but im not sure if they are any good. Has anyone tried them or knows of a store where i can get some good quality ones?
I can't seem to find MAPP gass in any store in my country (Slovenia) so if anyone knows of an online store in Europe that would be ..read more

Im having trouble melting my silver consistently and I dont know why. This is my first time trying anything like this so I really have no clue if this is normal but my ceramic crucible starts turning red a few minutes after I start heating the silver.
My first attempt was on a bigger crucible where I think I put too much borax and the metal got “swallowed” by it and I couldnt get it to fully melt after that. A red glassy coat was left on one side of the metal after it solidified
My second attempt was done with a smaller crucible where I was more careful not to saturated with borax but ma ..read more

Hello, I am sorry for my bad English, it is not my first language. I am new and self taught, and I can’t understand why my casting ends up like this. I got it casted and almost every single one of them have these markings. It looks like scratches, but I have sanded them down, used a grinder each time and polished at the end (I use a micro motor).
I have to eventually get half of them gold plated, but I’m not sure if these markings will appear after the gold plating either.
I know sometimes silver will have dark markings after being heated, but these does not look like the same things. I a ..read more

Everytime i cast, i almost never get a clean surface texture (the jagged bottom of the bangle seen on the left is just wax tho, for covering 3d printing support only).. i always have shallow cracks here and there, or heavy textures on some parts and clean texture on some! I wonder what’s wrong.. i’m using bluecast x one resin, with prestige certus oro investment. I’m burning out following the investment cycle, pretty similar to bluecast but burns at 750 celsius the highest for 3 hours, then casting temp of 660 celsius in oven (i have 1-2 minutes before pouring so i think my actual temp wo ..read more

You can see from these pics alone.. everything is heavily textured and/or crusty. I use bluecast x-one with regular wax, and prestige certus oro investment. My burnout is 750 celsius at highest for 3 hours.. i melt the silver manuay with torch, i use a bit of borax and pour when everythings seems liquid. Sometimes there's still a thin layer of something cracking at the surface of the melted silver tho... idk what it is!

These are some new mountain rings that I have been working on. To make these I created a physical geography from topographic maps in CAD and then added them to the ring model. After the CAD modeling was completed, the rings were 3D printed in a castable resin. I hand poured these with a vacuum investment casting setup.
