My Home Run

I was asked by Eric Adsit if I wanted to be a part of a video series that he was doing with NRS that highlights the river that you consider to be your home run. I was thrilled to be asked and to be a part of it. My home run is the Deerfield River. Its headwaters are in southern Vermont and drains into the Connecticut River in northwestern Massachusetts. The river offers up different sections of whitewater from class I-V and a few reservoirs in-between. Personally, my favorite section is the West Branch of the Deerfield that runs through my town in VT. Its a great class IV/V run that runs off r ..read more

We love being in Vermont in the winter but when March gets close we are ready to skedaddle for some warmer weather. Don’t get me wrong, I love winter. I love how beautiful everything is covered in snow and I love winter activities. I love being on my snowboard and on my cross country skis and just enjoying what winter has to offer. Of course, I miss paddling, fishing and just about anything else you can do in the water but it’s nice to put that equipment away and get out the winter gear. I’ll be honest as I’ve gotten older and have been paddling for almost 17 years I’ve noticed that paddling ..read more

A look back at 2018

What a year 2018 was. We did a lot of the same things but added a couple new things to our lifestyle. I took on more responsibility with my job at Pau Hana Surf Supply. I did an interview with ESPN Women and the other was in Vermont Sports Magazine. The biggest change for me was becoming a pescatarian in 2018 and I’ll tell you the story.  It was the beginning of May and I ate about 4 pounds of pork. I had lots of bacon for breakfast, a ham sandwich for lunch and I made a delicious Portuguese pork loin for dinner. At the end of the night I didn’t feel right. I was “gut bombed”! It wasn’t fo ..read more

We have been busy! I can’t believe I haven’t posted since June! We had another great summer in Henderson, NY on Lake Ontario. It was filled with fishing, boating, sailing, kayaking, suping, working, you know the usual things that we do. We’ve been back home in Vermont since middle of September getting some house work done and splitting wood. I feel like I’m always splitting wood. Nothing really has changed with us except adding fishing to our list of things to do. Jeff’s back to playing music in the area. I just started work again this fall at Timber Creek Cross Country getting the xc ski trai ..read more

What a trip! We had an amazing time seeing family and friends, paddling new rivers, and visiting some National Parks. We decided to come home early this year. Instead of doing 3 months we did 2 months. I had a work commitment on the east coast and Brook was diagnosed with heart disease on the trip. We just felt like it was time to come home.  In my last blog post we were still in Arizona about to head out to California but first we needed to visit a friend in Prescott and check out Sedona. I’ll let the photo’s tell the story. Hiking around Sedona. We stumbled upon a Food Truck Fest in Sed ..read more

Winter in New England can be a roller coaster ride but this one had more corkscrews than normal. We had what seemed to be a great start to winter with good snow but then it was super cold! It was so cold that when Brook peed outside it froze before it even hit the snow. We thought we were going to run out of wood! I’ve lived in VT for 12 years and never experienced a cold spell like this one! We survived and we didn’t run out of wood.  Here’s some photo’s during the first part of winter. Cross country skiing is a great activity in the cold!  Family visits are always fun especially when th ..read more

Another great year for the Campbell clan. We pretty much stick to the same routine every year. We live in VT but spend the Spring in our RV traveling around the country and our Summers are spent in NY on Lake Ontario.  Some highlights from 2017 are checking out a couple National Parks on our road trip, I started a new job with Pau Hana Surf Supply and we have a new niece named Stella who was born in May.  I could go on and on but instead here’s some of my favorite photos from 2017. If you click on the photo you can do a slide show. Check out the quick video at the end. First paddle in 2017 ..read more

Skookumchuck

It’s rare for me to go on a paddling trip without Jeff. I hate going away without him :(. I had enough frequent flier miles to make it to Vancouver so off I went to Skookumchuck without him. If you don’t know what Skook is I’ll tell you real quick. It’s a tidal rip in Egmont, BC in the Sechelt Inlet on the Pacific Ocean that at certain high tides like over 12 knots is epic for freestyle kayaking. It’s a big wave that is amazing! The whitewater behind it can be pretty tricky especially if you miss the eddy. There’s big boils, waves and unpredictable wave holes that come and go.  I spent the nig ..read more
