I’m a college sophomore and I’m in CC so there’s only two years and I’ve failed English class almost 3 times. I’m taking a summer class now so I can graduate on time. I’m so so frustrated. I don’t ever understand the assignments and the instructions. I’ve had to write an essay every week and she never fully understood them or liked them. Pls help with my next two semesters! I’m worried I won’t graduate! Any tips? submitted by /u/helenarau [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Does anyone know of some diagnostic testing (telehealth) that is affordable? All of the ones in my area are 1,500+. I need it for college and I'm an adult. Any advice? (In highschool I had a 504 but it was for test anxiety, I think it's definitely more than that) submitted by /u/Medusa_5050 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

6 year old son diagnosed

My six year old son was just diagnosed with dyslexia. This comes as a shock, mostly due to his parents both being voracious readers and have read to him every single day for his entire life. Obviously, I know this has no bearing on my son— he is his own person. We are getting him the help he needs and talking him through the idea that his brain works differently, which isn’t a bad thing at all. Anyone have any strategies for helping him in additional to a special education program? I’m thinking maybe audio books or other activities that can help him. We play a lot of letter games with him but ..read more

Question about glasses

I'm looking for a specific type of glasses. It's hard to describe but I'll try my best. I'm looking for glasses that can block not only my peripheral vision left to right but aso top to bottom. Kind of like a reverse version of those cardboard vr goggles Google was peddling years ago. I'm imagining a rectangular box jutting from my face slightly. I bought the glasses that supposedly blocked left and right but my top and bottom are exposed. If not, I'll I can just design and 3D print a prototype for myself. I find that blocking my peripheral vision, top and bottom included, increases my readin ..read more

As the title suggests, I want to have a copy of my report when when I was diagnosed around 12yrs ago. I wasn't aware we were provided copies of the assessment (I didn't really understand either). I've asked my mum for our copy and she claims she doesn't know where it is , along with a bunch of other important documents about me. Sigh I'm not sure where to go or who to ask. If anyone has an idea I'd appreciate it. :) submitted by /u/Hold-My-Shnapps [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Would an Avatar for Online Content Consumption Be Helpful?

Hey everyone! I'm here to ask those living with dyslexia: do you think an avatar for interacting with online content could make absorption easier? Many of us know how challenging it can be to focus on lengthy readings or videos, especially when dealing with complex or dull topics. That's why I'm exploring the idea of creating an avatar, a virtual character you could interact with while consuming online content. This avatar could be customizable and adaptable to your preferences. It could provide a summary of key information, highlight important concepts, or even ask you questions to help main ..read more

I'm working on building my own text to speech app because I've found the existing ones to be pretty disappointing. Just wondering how others have found them and what people like and dislike about them. I have ADHD and a minor sight issue but not dyslexia so I would really love some help understanding it more from a dyslexic person's standpoint. Thanks in advance and sorry for the corpo post ?? submitted by /u/Ecstatic_Papaya_1700 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Something I've noticed with counting. Anyone else?

Im purely just curious. Let's say you're doing inventory and counting how many of a thing you have, and it's over 10. Examples, folders, screws, paperclips, bottles. I noticed yesterday that whenever I'm like at number ending with '9', like 39, 49, 59, etc. I just can't go to the next number I'll be repeating it over and over and over again and then I'm having to restart cause I'll be flipping them or my brain short circuits. Cause I just have no idea what number I'm at anymore. Or what about like 66, 77, 88, 99. And then they're a good chance I'll write the number backwards. Anyone else have ..read more

"The world was my oyster but I used the wrong fork." —Oscar Wild Could you imagine this carved on your gravestone? In my case, it would be misspelled, but hey, at least, I’ll leave you guessing! Have any of you noticed yourself doing wrong fork thinking? In other words, using the wrong type of thinking, but in the right way or dyslexic way or as my dad used to say, ass backwards. submitted by /u/Hungry_Ad5456 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
