What is the cause of hypothyroidism if you don’t have hashimotos?

My TSH has been elevated (5.8-6.7) for 2+ years. I think it’s went up recently because I feel like absolute garbage every day of my life. I think I’m subclinical, but my antibodies have always been low. What causes this? If not hashimotos? submitted by /u/frenchiefrusk [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Labs getting worse on Levo?

Last time I had my labs pulled TSH was 3.14, T4 was 1.1; This morning lab pulled TSH of 4, T4 of 1. High for my lab is TSH of 3.5. Low is considered T4 of 0.8. I've also developed a painful/tender goiter that's making it hard to swallow at times. I am taking 25 mcg of Synthroid daily and have been for just over a month. Symptoms persist (some are even getting worse, fatigue namely) , admittedly, I'm still waiting for the TPO-AB to result to test for Hashimoto's, so I don't have the full picture yet. Has anyone else experienced this decline in lab values after starting Levo/Synth? submitte ..read more

Hello everyone, I’ve twiddled my thumbs for weeks on rather to post to this site or not, but I figured now I will. I’m new to posting so I apologize if I make mistakes. I got pregnant back in late February and after a back and forth with the receptionist at my OB I finally got them to let me come in for blood work. I wanted to make sure my body was healthy as I hadn’t had blood work done in a few years (a lot had happened). Come to find out my TSH was 25 and T4 was a little low. T3 was fine. I never had symptoms or anything of thyroid issues. OB Doctor prescribed me 50 mcg of levothyroxine an ..read more

Can hospital check my thyroid levels? Its affecting my mental health and I’m starting to feel $uicidal

I’m not going to hurt myself but my thyroid is fucking up my mental health. I can’t go to the psych ward cause I don’t have anyone who can watch my cat. I also have a job interview next week and can’t stay the whole week. I was just wondering if I go to the hospital in general, can they check my thyroid levels? The new endo I’m seeing is really dismissive and the one I like and always liked retired. I need to see someone urgently and it’s the weekend, so I’m not sure if a hospital can check my thyroid levels. submitted by /u/mynamesnotriiiick_ [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Is This Normal?

Hello everyone! I (33F) was diagnosed with mild hypothyroidism in 2019 and was put on 10 mcg of levothyroxine. It was fine for a few years, I did notice some symptoms like my skin getting slightly worse, but for the most part, I carried on as normal. Then, in 2022, I started experiencing strange symptoms like frequent diarrhea, acne, hair thinning, and intense mood swings. I went to so many doctors and was told that I was totally healthy, I also got my hormones checked since it all felt very similar to puberty (minus the diarrhea) but they were apparently normal. I went to therapy, I started ..read more

In 2022 I did my blood work and my tsh came out 8.6 with normal t3,t4. Checked with an endocrinologist he asked to do the TPO test for antibodies which came out normal. Since then I've been having 75mcg of thyroid med. When I asked my doc what is the cause behind it he said you have hypothyroid cuz your mom and her mom have one. I don't know how true it is? Is this cause viable? As I can't think of any other cause and i dont have hashimotos or any other auto immune disease. I'm fit do gym regularly yet till date I'm not able to put my tsh level to normal it usually hover around 6-8 since last ..read more

Hey guys, first post ever. A little bit about me: 29F, newly diagnosed Hypothyroidism April 2024 by my PCP who ordered Levothyroxine 25 mcg (TSH ~7, has never been above 3 all my life), symptomatic, & living in the United States. I have been taking birth control pills (currently Tri Estarylla) since 2014 so it’s been a decade. My question to those or know others who have been on hormonal birth control pills before diagnosed with any sort of Thyroid issues: would quitting oral BC help with hypothyroidism? I am stuck with what to do because BC helped me so much in my life: it got rid of the ..read more
