We haven’t featured many Vintage Bride stories from the 70s, but this one from photographer Jessamyn Harris might take the cake (the roof!). Jessamyn says, “The wedding was a wild time with guests watching the ceremony in the brick courtyard of my grandparents’ house and THE ROOF (which ultimately needed replacing!). My grandma wore the most fabulous so-very-1972-dress (that we had in our dress up box all through the 80s; how I wish we still did!), and my grandpa somehow wore two clashing plaids as part of his formal suit. Funny enough—not only did he invite his entire hunting club (who my pa ..read more

Today’s Vintage Bride comes from Snippet & Ink reader Kirkland – we’re so happy she shared this with us, and really love how she honored her grandparents’ love story! “This is a picture of my grandparents the day they eloped in 1940. They met on a blind date set up by one of my grandfather’s Army buddies. My grandfather, who was from Baltimore, said he didn’t want to go on a date with some “hick” from North Carolina, but after they met he quickly changed his mind and they fell in love. If he had a nickel he would ride a trolley across the city to see her every day, or if not he would walk ..read more

Today’s Vintage Bride comes from our friends over at Belathee… “My grandparents grew up in northern Germany and met at a young age. Their lives very influenced by the proximity to the ocean and being at sea since my grandfather was a sailor. Their wedding was quite simple and small from what I was told but having a photographer and a ” proper” wedding outfit was the one thing they splurged on. They married in a small town “Kiel” in 1939.   Interested in sharing your VINTAGE BRIDE STORIES with us? SHOOT US AN EMAIL RIGHT HERE! Today’s Vintage Bride comes from Snippet and Ink reader (and amazing florist!), Charlotte. She was recently cleaning out her garage and stumbled upon this old photo of her grandmother (far right) at her grandmother’s sister’s wedding. Caroline Creswell Sproull (1898-1971) married Robert Knight (1893-1934) at First Presbyterian Church in Anniston, Alabama sometime between 1918, she was 19 years old. Can we talk about how fabulous those bouquets are?! And perhaps their hair, stockings, and dresses? Absolutely, jaw-droppingly beautiful! This week’s Vintage Bride comes from Leili via Save Family Photos. Says Leili: These two friends, artists and partners have celebrated 50 years of partnership. They came from different cultural and faith backgrounds and grew up thousands of miles away from each other (and from the US, which they subsequently made their home). Their first, chance meeting at a large housewarming party in Cambridge, Massachusetts nearly did not take place. It might not have happened had my Dad arrived two minutes later, or had my Mum left two minutes earlier. Although the cultures in which they were raised appea ..read more

Thank you Lacey for submitting today’s Vintage Bride… This vintage wedding is my great-grandmother’s brother’s wedding in New York circa 1920s. His name was Chester Arthur Moore, born in 1897, and he married Eunice Brogley. They lived in Stuyvesant, New York, and Lakewood, New Jersey. He was a minister with the Reformed Church and tried to improve the impoverished conditions of his hometown of Mildred, Kentucky. He graduated from Rutgers University in 1924 and New Brunswick Theological Seminary in 1927 and pastored several churches. He and Eunice never had children and remained married until ..read more

Mom wore a dress made by her brother who was a tailor! Their wedding reception was held at my grandmother’s house with the street lined with neighbors to welcome the bride and groom. This photo shows my parents walking up the stairs to their reception, and also to the very spot where they met. My parents met at a friends wedding as they were both part of th ..read more
