WASTE isn’t WASTE  Until it’s WASTED… Every 10 minutes, 6,000kg of textile waste is discarded into Australian landfills.  On average, Australians purchase 27kg of new textiles and discard 23kg annually. About 7% of these items get recycled and the rest is left to decompose in landfills over hundreds of years.  This needless waste releases greenhouse gases into the atmosphere and leeches dyes into the waterways and the soil – contaminating crops and safe drinking water. It’s clear that the linear fashion economy we currently use is unsustainable and change is well overdue.  ..read more

I get so much inspiration from high fashion, it really helps me to tap into my creativity and play dress ups with what I already have or could thrift. This practice has significantly slowed down my fashion consumption, its allowed me to STOP BEFORE I SHOP and be my own designer. To celebrate BUY NOTHING NEW MONTH, I dived into my wardrobe and whipped up a thrifty ode to LV I loved the exaggerated size of hardware like zippers, belts and buttons so I had a tinker with my stash and layered up belts, a corset piece and even an earring to serve some designer inspired vibes. One of the most delightful off shoots from shopping sustainably is the incredible education I consistently receive, akin to attending ‘THRIFT-iversity’ and honestly I never want to graduate. Preloved clothing is forever sparking my curiosity, nudging me to investigate labels and research brands I may not know much about. It speaks to my fashion beagle sensibility – the insatiable quest for consciousness shifting chic.  Case in point, these two incredible Nino Cerruti ‘mens suits’.found at Salvos Stores Online… I LOVE an androgynous suit moment and I knew the CERRUTI name when I saw it ..read more

Thrifting is truly like a giant dress up box and it has taught me to ignite and excite my inner fashion designer. Buying second hand is always my first choice and if I find an imperfect piece with special qualities such as ‘Made in Australia’ or its a natural fibre like wool then I whisk it off to my trusty dressmaker to create a custom fit just for me. See the Journey of said sweater below @fayedelanty JOURNEY OF A THRIFT FIND #restyle2hand #customfits #bespoketailoring ♬ Puddles – Daniela Andrade I know it can be tempting to get your fashion fix fast but a few profound things can happen w ..read more
