Can high humidity trigger asthma?

So, I was in the shower today and suddenly had trouble breathing. It wasn't a normal asthma attack but I can't really describe what the difference was. I wasn't wheezing, it was more like there wasn't enough oxygen in the air? If that makes any sense? I had to shut off the shower and sit down on the floor to get my breathing back to normal. This isn't the first time I had trouble breathing while taking a shower, but it's the first time I had to take a break to breathe. Also, I didn't need my inhaler, after a minute sitting down and just breathing I was fine. Is this a typical trigger for asth ..read more

I’ve battled it alone with out any pred before . my concern is it progressing to the point of me needing to go to the ER . my breathing is alright I’m just coughing a lot of phlegm , I am wheezing but I feel okay besides the point my nasal symptoms make me feel I have a cold . literally my nose at the bottom is all dry and peeling and I just feel under the weather . I’m trying to stay off prednisone unless I really need it , but yeah lol I am willing to make an inhaler change but no prednisone ???? submitted by /u/Severe-Ad-8768 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Was prescribed 40mg of prednisone for five days. How long until I’ll start being able to breathe again without nearly suffocating?

I was actually prescribed this for a combo of a nasty case of walking pneumonia that brought on an asthma attack (my first in over a decade, actually). The inflammation in my lungs from the pneumonia won’t go the f*** away, even after the fluid in my lungs has gone. My asthma is playing a role in the inflammation staying as well. How long will it take me (20f) to actually be able to breathe again without feeling like someone has their hands over my nose and mouth? How did you guys react to the medication? I keep on seeing ppl say that they felt better after a few hours, whereas others took a ..read more

Okay so, had asthma all my life, it took a couple cycles of medication but I got on a low dose of symbicort and it was okay. Out of nowhere in OCT of 2023 I started getting uncontrollable asthma attacks, not even my nebulizers where working, I’d get sent to the ER and had to do multiple rounds of nebulizers and steroids before I was okay, and normally ended up with a admittance, rinse and repeat 1-3 times per month still to this day. They are rinsing me through the meds, singular, dulera, spiriva, etc. while on a basically constant taper on and taper off prednisone. Okay, THATS JUST THE CONTE ..read more

Can asthma be this... un-asthma like?

Here are my "asthma" symptoms: Extreme shortness of breath (unable to walk around house) started suddenly overnight at 31yo with no history of breathing trouble. No coughing or wheezing. Lungs sound clear. Nothing significant on chest xray. Oxygen levels stable at 97-100, even as I'm gasping for breath. Worse on rainy days, better on sunny days. Mildly responsive to albuterol and oral steroids, but not significantly. No one can figure out why I can't breathe. Cardiologist and ENT have cleared me. Pulmonologist wants to wait until I can breathe to do lung function testing. They're anticipating ..read more

Cramping. Please help!

Hello. New here. I have asthma and it sucks. It’s obviously worse with allergy season and sickness. I have my rescue meds and maintenance meds. They do well enough to keep me breathing. What I am struggling with is body cramping. I don’t know if it’s as a result of the meds or the asthma itself. When I say cramping, I don’t mean a little cramp. Nothing like an exercise cramp. I get body spasms that last for 20+ minutes. When I try to adjust to stop the cramping, a cramp will form somewhere else. They also aren’t in “normal” spots. They’re down my spine, in my ribs, throughout my sides. They’r ..read more

Singulair and the stereotypical mental health post (except not really)

Hey guys, short back story. Currently 24 years old- took singulair from age 5- 21 and (coincidentally?) also suffer from severe OCD, anxiety, and depression. I’m not asking if it can cause those side affects because I think we all know it very well can and does; my question is this- for the rare chance that any of you all are like me and took singulair long term and came off- did your mental health ever get better? Or do you think the drug caused permanent damage? In hindsight - Im not terribly mad I took it. My parents/doctors at the time thought it was the best idea and made the decision af ..read more
