The Tea Network
The Tea And Hat Lady

One of the easiest and most fun ways to get to know, understand, and appreciate tea is through an already established “Tea Network.” Many tea enthusiasts stay in touch through well-known social media sites — FaceBook (www.facebook.com/TheTeaAndHatLady), Instagram (The Tea And Hat Lady), and LinkedIn (http://linkedin.com/in/marcella-farina-11158919). To me the best way to know tea is to attend regional, national, and international tea events. It is at these events that you get to know the tea growers, tea importers, and the developers of tea products and accessories. My favorite gatherings of t ..read more

Quality Teas for Those On The Go
The Tea And Hat Lady

An outstanding collection of tea — information, samples, and accessories. Having just completed the 2019 World Tea Expo, I am reflecting on the innovative use of tea and herbs to promote wellness through the pleasure of their taste, aroma, and appearance.  We are experiencing a, perhaps, second, third, or even fourth re-awakening of the value tea and herbs can play on the quality of our lives. Granted there are many of us that have made tea and herbs a major part of our wellness program a long time ago but, it is always encouraging to s ..read more

Tea Therapy for the State of Being
The Tea And Hat Lady

It’s the time for Spring, new beginnings, freshness, and newness, which normally brings a sense of warmth and calmness. That warmth and calmness will have to be put on hold for this year as we are knee-deep in the process of selling our home, moving cross country, and doing a tremendous down-sizing. In other words we are looking for homes for all the treasures our children could not part with when they departed for college and now do not have room for their homes.I am turning more and more to a cuppa tea for my calmness and sense of well-being. During these times of extreme stress my only sola ..read more

BROKEN BONE CHINAAuthor — Laura Childs#20 in A Tea Shop Mystery Series Favorite Quote — Theodosia smiled. “Good friends.” “And may the angels protect us and heaven accept us,” The Quote I found to be most appropriate. — They’d settled into what a political scientist would probably call a nonaggression pact. (In reference to today’s world, I wish more would do the same.) Favorite Character — Earl Gray — What can I say I am a sucker for animals, especially dogs that have been rescued. Drayton (The Indigo Tea Shop’s Sommelier) would be my favorite human character as he is definitely the last of t ..read more

Yes, I am a Tea Snob
The Tea And Hat Lady
by Marcella Farina

Yes, I admit I am a tea snob — a nice tea snob — but yet very snobbish about my tea! While making a cuppa morning tea (Assam this morning) I found myself concerned about the water temperature and began to think about what I prefer when it comes to “My Tea”. Thinking outside the cup, as I am not a traditional tea snob, the following is what goes into a perfect cup of tea for me:I prefer the water temperature to be 195 degrees Fahrenheit. In my opinion one cannot enjoy the flavor of the tea if one’s mouth has just been scalde ..read more

Tea N Biscuits — Matcha Biscuits
The Tea And Hat Lady

As we finish January, 2019 I am convinced it is appropriate that January should be Hot Tea Month with all the cold, damp, snowy, freezing weather. (Especially since most of the country (USA) is in — what the media is calling — a Polar Vortex.) During these times the body reaches for all that will keep it warm and what better to do the warming than from the inside out with a cuppa hot tea.Although we are not in the frigid northeast this winter, January still brings thoughts of wanting to be warmer. My tea desires turn to traditional black tea; particularly an English breakfast tea with the adde ..read more

Influenced by National Hat Day  (January 15) and having recently attended the Lady Gaga Jazz & Piano show in Las Vegas, I am inspired to reflect on some of my favorite chapeaux. I would be amiss if I didn’t give credit where credit is due for the fabulous designs of my favorites — Eric Javitts, Louise Greene, Christine A. Moore, and Grevi — just naming a few off the top of my head. In my opinion, the wearing of a hat sets one apart from the crowd and adds the finishing touch to what you are wearing. I may not always have the latest fashion trend but my chapeau will always compliment my out ..read more

A Tea Lover’s Chicken Soup
The Tea And Hat Lady

Today’s unusually gray, rainy weather emphasizes that it is the season for sniffling, sneezing, and coughing as well as that all considerations of what to drink turns to what will keep me healthy. My tea routine normally begins with morning Matcha to provide that boost sometimes needed for trying days. (Okay,, so I begin everyday with Matcha — does that a say that all my days are trying?) Later in the day you might find me enjoying a cup of Oolong tea — preferably a Taiwan Oolong. Following dinner I like to enjoy a nice Pu’erh to aid the digestion of all the day’s goodies. But when the cold sea ..read more
