Knife Review: Civivi Conspirator
Hunting Insider
by Aaron Uscilla
1y ago
Curious if it would hold up, they sent me a Conspirator to put to the test. This knife endured several months of daily carry, multiple trips, and countless uses. It is still sharp and beautiful as ever. Its Damascus blade garnered considerable comments whenever I took it out, which I often did just to show it off.  The Conspirator is 8.11” in length open, 4.63” closed and 1.44” wide with a 3.48” blade. It fits comfortably and securely in a pants pocket with its attached stainless-steel clip. It was a bit long for carry in some women’s clothing, but that’s not the fault of the knife. Many ..read more

Stuck Inside? Several Things to Consider this Winter
Hunting Insider
by Serena Juchnowski

The first snow is beautiful, but it also means something. Living in the Midwest where we have four seasons (or sometimes seemingly more), it can be difficult to get outside and do all of the things we enjoy. Fall and winter afford opportunities for things unrealistic the rest of the year, like sledding or skiing. Hunting season also comes into full swing.  But what about your guns? Ranges close for the winter and hunting season. Some are open, but it may be too frigid to shoot well or comfortably. Changing seasons doesn’t affect everyone. Some only shoot at indoor ranges; others don’t sho ..read more

Camp Perry: Field of Dreams
Hunting Insider
by Serena Juchnowski

To the general observer, it may look like just a field but it’s so much more. Thousands make the annual pilgrimage to Camp Perry in Port Clinton, Ohio to attend the National Matches, a tradition on the shores of Lake Erie since 1907. Run by the Civilian Marksmanship Program, the matches take place in four phases: pistol, smallbore, rifle, and long range.  The service rifle matches draw the greatest number of competitors, including juniors (shooters through the year of their 20th birthday), families, and military teams from across the country. After a year off due to the pandemic, shooters ..read more

Guns & Gear for Deer Season: A General Guide
Hunting Insider
by Serena Juchnowski

You can feel it. As summer wanes, the crisp feeling of Fall sets in, apple cider fills grocery store shelves, and daylight hours lessen. Tinges of color suspended against the sky and scattered along the ground signal the onset of deer season. Everyone prepares differently. Some head out the first morning of archery season, having practiced all year for opening day. Others only hunt during gun season, sighting in their gun the week before. Just as people have different hunting styles, every state has slightly different laws and seasons. I have been fortunate to live and hunt in Ohio, spoiled by ..read more

Ohio Company BRG-USA Imports Affordable and Accurate 9mm
Hunting Insider
by Serena Juchnowski

The irony is striking. I travelled 2,000 miles to meet a local company. I first met BRG-USA at the 2022 SHOT Show, an industry trade show held annually in Las Vegas. Prior to four full days of meetings on a traditional show floor is Industry Day at the Range, an opportunity for invited media and exhibitors to test out the latest and greatest firearms. Thanks to COVID, 2022’s event was smaller than in previous years, but just as, if not more, valuable. I originally sought out BRG-USA’s shooting bay just because they were an Ohio company. While I had little to no school spirit in high school an ..read more

Life in the Pits: Fred the Mouse
Hunting Insider
by Serena Juchnowski

January 9, 2020 Before Covid, there was Fred the mouse. And after Covid, if such a world exists, Fred the mouse will remain. Though I have never personally met Fred, his presence was made known to me in September of 2016 during the annual EIC match held at Solon Sportsmen’s Club. Organized pit buckets, supplies readily available – everything present and accounted for needed to reface and score targets. I just didn’t count on anything extra. Droppings, scattered across the floor, scattered all over each shelf and across the tops of the buckets (which also served as a scoring disk) laden with st ..read more

I Can’t Imagine My Life Without Them
Hunting Insider

January 17, 2019 Thursday — since I first joined South Cuyahoga Sportsman’s Association’s Junior High Power Rifle Team in 2015, Thursday has been my favorite day of the week. Most kids would look forward to Friday…the end of the week…the start of two days of freedom from school — as I did too, but nothing meant more than Thursday evening rifle practice. All throughout high school, I made it my goal to never miss practice. It didn’t matter how much homework I had — I would rather sacrifice some sleep than give up seeing my “range family” and losing out on an evening that gave me enough motivat ..read more
