Our 1954 Home: Primary Bedroom

Today I am finally bringing you a look at our bedroom! It should be noted our home is a three bedroom, however one is our gym and library, and the other is our office, which we hope to revamp later this year, so stay tuned! Therefor this is really the only true bedroom in the home, and is the primary bedroom as it features the dressing room and bathroom. While the bedroom didn’t require any major renovation, it just never felt complete to me. It never felt like the homey, warm place I wanted it to be. After the painting marathon of other rooms in the house I knew the bedroom needed paint. Lat ..read more

Driving down La Brea in Hollywood and you might spy a long, snaking line by some vibrant pink murals of hot dogs, if you’re wondering what everyone’s in line for, the murals and the color are exactly it! Pink’s Hot Dogs, and these dogs are a real Hollywood icon, serving movie stars, humble locals, and tourists for over 80 years. In 1939, amid the Great Depression Paul and Betty Pink decided to start selling hot dogs after spying a cart for sale in the newspaper. With a $50 loan from Betty’s mother, and Betty’s secret chili recipe, Paul sold chili dogs from the small cart on a vacant lot th ..read more

Sweethearts’ Nite at Disneyland

In recent years Disneyland has started “after hours” separate ticked parties at the park known as “Disneyland After Dark” with various themes. While some of the themes change year to year, some have stuck around, such as Sweethearts’ Nite, an evening dedicated to love and friendship. Last year Minerva, one of my friends went, and she’s a bit of an autograph hound like me, albeit in a much more creative way, as she sketches characters and then asks the characters to sign by her sketches. She’s so talented and you can check her out on Instagram! I saw she met one of my all-time favorite characte ..read more

The Autry: A Look at the American West, both Real and Fiction

With a love of westerns, it’s no wonder one of my favorite museums in Los Angeles is The Autry, which is dedicated to the American west. Recently they opened Imagined Wests, an exhibit that showcases how the American West is presented in pop culture. In addition to Imagined Wests, there were a few other interesting exhibits, including Reclaiming El Camino, Sherman Indian School, and Investigating Griffith Park, as well as their permanent exhibits showcasing real artifacts of the west that always prove interesting. Imagined Wests asks visitors “What is a Western?” and looks at the various ..read more

Ringing in 2024

For the first time since the pandemic, Patrick and I hosted a New Year’s Eve party. It also meant I decorated for New Year’s Eve for the first time since ringing in 2020! And I hadn’t realize just how much I had bought over the last few yeas, including some spectacular 70s hats and many more noisemakers. I decided super last minute to host the party, and we ended up with a smaller party than years past (when ringing in 2020 we had 63 people!) but it was still delight and we spent it eating, chatting, and watching Disneyland’s fireworks from the comfort of our front yard. The evening gave me an ..read more

Christmas Day Magic

Since moving to California, going to Disneyland Christmas Day has become a tradition for Patrick and I. It’s a day to soak up the festive sights and bites of the season and take it easy. For over a decade I’ve avoided sweatshirts, but recently I’ve embraced them. They give a layer of warmth, but without the restrictive movement of jackets and even sweaters. When I spied this one at the park earlier in the holiday season I knew it would be the perfect thing to wear for Christmas, as I knew I wanted a more casual look for the day. And while I’ve embraced the sweatshirt, I still try to gussy t ..read more

For Christmas Eve Patrick and I went to Knott’s Berry Farm, which always proves extra charming during the holiday season. Each area gets decked out for the holidays, and inside the Birdcage Theatre guests can be entertained by reimaginings of “A Christmas Carol” and “Gift of the Magi” that incorporate elements of the Ghost Town area. There are other shows as well, including an amazing ice skating show and an outdoor musical review featuring classic Christmas tunes. Another highlight is the craft fair, where people sell a variety of hand made wares, from crocheted accessories, to carved wood, t ..read more
