Should the bible be taken word for word?

I want to make it clear that I do NOT mean, should the bible be taken literally? Of course a lot of the bible is clearly metaphorical, I more mean should we trust the bible as the direct word from god, despite the fact that in some books such as Leviticus stuff like eating crawfish is considered a sin? And if it shouldn't be taken as the word of god then is it a sin to nit pick certain parts of the bible we take literally in order to justify things like political beliefs? Hope this made sense, please ask if you are confused. Edit: please read some of the replies I have posted under other comm ..read more

There's something spirituality wrong with me and I don't know what it is

It started when I was around eight years old, with my depression. All about it was progressive and I couldn't do anything, the thing is, I feel really sick every time someone with a spiritual gift or what people around me have described as "feeling god" happens, first I could feel him, but I felt sleepy, that sleepiness that was just in this two occasions started to be every time I was in a church. It's normal for kids to feel sleepy in church, but with time it started to get worse, at a point that now if I'm around someone that has a spiritual gift or when people can feel god I feel extreme ..read more

Cosmic balance?

Okay so most people agree that God is all powerful. Do you think there is some sort of cosmic balance that he has to maintain? Otherwise, why did he have to send Jesus to die on the cross in order to forgive our sins? What do you think? submitted by /u/nineoctopii [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Audio Bible app recommendation for devotional

Hello, I'm looking to try something new with my devotional reading and I'm wondering if you all would have a recommendation for what I have in mind. I want to be able to queue up chapters from different sections of the Bible and listen to them in a playlist of sorts, I.e., a chapter from the Pentatuch, history, poetry, the prophets, the Gospels, the Epistles, and Revelation. I want to be able to cycle through all of those categories for hours without messing with my phone. I would prefer ESV for this but it's hardly a deal breaker. Any ideas? submitted by /u/CletusVanDayum [visit reddit] [co ..read more

Euphrates river

Hello anyone. Last time anyone helped me rationalise my question and anxiety of the "red heifer" I learned it's not really a prophecy. I am currently reading the Bible and studying it now i am kinda anxious about "the drying of the Euphrates river" is it truly a prophecy or a sign? (I know revelation 16. Speaks of it but i actually never took revelation literally but I read most of it as 'apocalyptic literature' and learned that most parts also already happened in the first time of Jesus.) So can you help me understand or maybe explain? Is Jesus second coming now imminent? submitted by /u/Ap ..read more

Thank you father God for today. I love coming to this forum just to say how I'm feeling. Just truly amazed and grateful for everything. The good and the bad and in between. God woke me my this morning with my son. I can see his face and I am so appreciative for that. It's amazing what God creates. What a beautiful day. The sun has risen and it's so nice to just take in his creation! ❤️?? submitted by /u/Glittering-Night-204 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

GOODNEWS!!! Abstain From Defilement (Prov. 23:26-32)

“My son, give me your heart, And let your eyes observe my ways. For a harlot is a deep pit, And a seductress is a narrow well. She also lies in wait as for a victim, And increases the unfaithful among men” (Prov. 23:26-28). The spirit of Harlotry defiles the flesh. It appears pleasing for a moment, but in the end ruins lives, destroy marriages and health. Seductive spirit entices; it comes in form of addictions. Both spirit of seductive and halotry defiles you. Addiction is loss of self control. Can be said to be anything prioritized above God. You could be addicted to food, wine, phone, work ..read more

Jeremiah 30:16 “Therefore all they that devour thee shall be devoured; and all thine adversaries, every one of them, shall go into captivity; and they that spoil thee shall be a spoil, and all that prey upon thee will I give for a prey.” Can anyone explain the context and what time period this verse is speaking of? https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Jeremiah-30-16/ submitted by /u/tutoe [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
