Good Morning and how is everyone? Great  rain here in Florida yesterday and now today is a comfortable 70. Canyon Sweeps is my latest painting. It is a 22x28 oil on a gallery canvas. I wanted to do a canyon painting that highlighted canyon shapes and shadows. Upper Grand Canyon in Arizona and Colorado  provided the basis for this painting. I am very satisfied the way the depth and horizon creates linear lines from top to bottom. I also wanted to use a very limited palette for the painting. Now I have to decide where I want to show displkay it.  Coming up in June 2024 the Magaz ..read more

Good morning and hope your Saturday is going well. Thought I would do a blog for March 2024. First is the current painting called Cloud Xplosions. 24x24 oil/acrylic unframed. The history on this painting is it was originally a beach scene from 2018. Clouds were anyway. I was so crazy about it I wanted to incorporate a western scene to it. So I did and now I am happy I made the change. Beach scenes and Florida landscapes are in storage so I pull them out from time to time. I know everyone wants me to paint them again but not right now. Never say never, right.    Next weekend is the ..read more

Good Afternoon to all. Cool January day in Florida today. With El Nino we see alot of cold days with rain about once a week. Hopefully it will change sooner then later. Painting today to discuss is "Homeward Bound" 12x36 oil on canvas. TItle comes from Song by Simon and Garfunkel I heard when i was finishing basic training in the Army in 1969. I was doing this painting while listening to the song so I thought it would be a good fit. Song has stuck with me for a long time and the moment in my life. Same with the Red Mesa in Arizona I was fortunate to see it in 2019. Went with my cousin Ed Mel ..read more

Waiting At The Station Valley of Fire Valley of Fire 2     Good afternoon and hope everyone is having a great day. Cool here in Lakeland and fitting for the 2nd day of November. Where has this year gone to.    I posted up 3 images so lets talk about them, First image is Waiting at the Station.. It is a photo of the AMTrack Station in Winter Haven Fl. I loved the perspective application and the openess and minimalist structure it represents. No hustle and bustle either. Just a train station , built as they say, old school. Thought it would be a perfect entry for Rails ..read more

Good afternoon  Hope your Monday is going well. Cool here this morning which is nice. Latest painting is "Sunday Morning. This is a 16x20 oil on a hardboard panel. I haven't used hardboard panels alot but I keep forgetting how well they work with oils for a very smooth surface. Basis for this painting was of course New Mexico and all the adobe buildings and communities in the valley districts and then in Northern New Mexico. Love the idea used by the Native Americans and the Mexicans to build with sand, clay, straw, and water to make bricks to build their homes. Also when the Jesui ..read more

Good Morning and hope your having a great Wednesday. Thought I would get this blog out. I finished Breakin Loose  this week. Well in theory its done but it still needs the varnish and frame. Some how this painting came about by watching some old John Ford movies. One of my favorite directors of all time. The Arizona backgrounds, the granduer of the wide spaces, and of course the actors all made the movies fun to watch. The Searchers, Tie a Yellow Ribbon, My Darling Clementine. So I researched and came up with Breakin Loose. The painting is a 12x36 oil on canvas. I totally think the widt ..read more

Good afternoon: nice rain for a hot day today. Cooled down to 80.   Solitude is a 12x12 oil on canvas. I wanted a painting that represented a solo cowboy  and alone. I then wanted to have it in a desert but maybe a extreme desert. Growing up in El Paso as a youth, we would got to the desert alot and one of the area near us was White Sands National Park in New Mexico..White Sands National park gives  a feeling of complete solitude when you are their because that is all you can see.  White Sand Dune Fields for miles and miles . White Sands does allow horses in the park ..read more
